I could not believe some of the calls that the umpires made last night. Coming from a neutral spectator, you were very harshly done by in the last quater.
Like McLean getting pinged, even though his jumper was getting held onto clearly before he got the ball. Then there was a massive pack of 5 players on the ball and he manages to call a holding the ball for Collingwood.
Absolute disgrace!!!

Admittedly it appeared as though Jones and McLean were getting pinged a hell of a lot, but it doesn't bother me all that much as their having a crack and they'll learn from it.

The umpiring was quite deplorable but that happens every now and then, the inconsistency shits me

Alot of them were right. Jones and McLean will learn that when you get the ball you can't go taking everyone on and trying to bust the packs, when often you'll just get pinged.

Then again, i understand there used to be something called "prior opportunity."

Umpires were hot on it early, so they had to continue the form. So contentious decisions like those are invariably made. That fact is that some of those umpires don't have the spine to straighten the game up and not take prior decisions to heart.

I think what happens is at the umpires meeting every week someone gets to role a big dice, and this time holding the ball came up, so they had to pay a heap of holding the balls. The worst one was Jones right at the start of the game, the first Brock one was pretty bad as well and Trav got pinged in the last quarter after being held and pushed in the back. Collingwood fans were saying we got all the umpiring calls (it was 31-21) but clearly the umpiring was terrible both ways. I think this might have been our first meeting with Ray all year and I hope it is our last for a long time.

Find the free kick counts in total for this whole year and you'll notice that Collingwood is top or near top out of all the teams in the frees for category. So anything a commentator says go's? Half of them are probably Collingwood supporters. How can it be biased towards one team when they recieved 10 more free kicks? I really can't see how, what did you want 50-20?

collingwood are dirty players.. that is why we got more frees. an even free count doesnt mean good umpiring. collingwood are scum and give away plenty of free kicks... melbourne were still hard done by...

Mate the topic to begin with was holding the ball calls. I metioned I think 3 instances where I thought that the umpires were quick on the whistle. There was also an instant where a Melbourne player was pushed in the back onto the ball and he was pinged instead of getting a free kick.
And don't talk to me about bias umps, I barrack for Port Adelaide. We're not one of the golorified AFL clubs (along with Essendon, Saint Kilda and for some reason the Bulldogs) like yours who get a significant amount of free kicks more then most clubs.
Port got two games in a row, where the free kick count was 27-11 I think.
Once again stick to the topic which is "holding the ball calls".

*this isnt trolling dont ban me please*

yeh the umpiring is disgraceful it jus gets beyond a joke.
they have to change the Hands in the back and the draggin the ball in = automatic free kick.

at times in the game both teams got the rough end of the stick.
The umpires are just pathetic. they need to do something about it.

They might not have all been there but Jones and McLean have a nasty habit of trying to take players on and getting nailed.
McLean did it twice, not a good option when hes not the quickest man going around.

Jones was unfortunate a couple of times, its a shame the man who goes after the ball the hardest often gets pinged.

That was the frustrating thing on Friday night, it seemed as there was no reward for trying to get the ball, soon as you got it you were pinged, prior opportunity was not a factor in the decision making

YOU GUY'S GOT RIPPED.

As has been happening all year the game was umpired one way for the 1st 3 qtrs and different in the last. It was let go for most of the game until suddenly it looked like the Dee's were a chance of getting up, even with no bench and injured players, so a couple of cheap ticky touch free's were given. N Jones was consistantly trying to make the play and alway's getting called for holding the ball, some were there but some certainly weren't.
Great game played with great spirit,:thumbsu: but you are not allowed to beat the Pies.:thumbsd:
P.S.
If Ben Johnson doesn't get 6 wks min then AFL are not serious about protecting the man a getting this crap out of the game. That was disgraceful the worst I have seen for a few years.
