What the one thing that is consistent in all premiership teams? Now, this is something we lacked in 2008...

"Defensive pressure from our forwards when the ball hits the deck in our forward line"

Our midfielders can deliver the ball all day into the forward line, and it helps 10 fold when they hit leading targets but our forwards will need to apply defensive pressure and keep the ball in the forward 50 when it spills to ground.

Too often last year we had scores kicked against us on the rebound straight out of our forward line!! This will bring the goal kicking midfielders into the game too allowing them to kick more goals from stoppages!!!!

Thoughts?

Did you watch collingwood in 08?

forward pressure is what davis, medhurst and thomas do best behind kicking goals. I just re watched the adelaide final and we ran down adelaide players five times in our forward fifty.

We do it very very well

I actually think our forwards are quite good defensively, especially Medders, JA, Leon and Cloke. We were more damaged by the fact that we didn't seem to counter players being pushed back into our forward line.

we have individual players that do apply pressure, Medhurst does do it. I agree with you there, but collectively we dont do it enough on a consistant basis.

So you didnt watch in 08?

mate i dont know where this is coming from its something we tend to do very well, as kirby said even a couple of tall forwards do it well

Less well against Hawthorn.

Did we do anything right against hawthorn apart from that twenty minute 4 goal burst in round 17?

It was definitely a problem in the middle of the year. Because Leon was struggling and/or missing matches, Didak was playing further up the ground, as was Thomas. That left only Medhurst as the real threat defensively.

But when we're at full-strength, and we play our small forwards deeper than the midfield, we're among the best in this department.

Didak and Rocca are our only forwards whose don't do this well. Watch Leon's goal of the year - forwardline pressure (and a kick from 50m out against the boundary) at it's best.

^ Yeah that was the awesomest thing ever. Nice to hear Bennell say that he has his eye on Leon, he's a good role-model. In terms of using his talent to full effect and also doing the '1%ers'.

I felt like I was going to cry after that goal. I'm not sure why, but that goal very nearly made me cry.

I think Jack Anthony owns this thread,,

Im sure we all remember his smother where he was knocked out, stretched his shoulder muscles. Limping his way off the ground, found some space took the mark and nailed it from about 40 out on an angle.

Great Video from favs, it's the last clip for those who forgot..

got to agree I also thought it was one of our strengths. Yes there was the odd game where we got smashed in that area but I believe the main reason for that is that the midfield was getting smashed.

Plus leon has shown you can start off as a Skinny Aboriginal Kid like Bennell and then put on Muscle and do the hard work to come Consistent

I noticed that when we were up and winning, our fowards responded with high pressure in our foward line. yet when we had our heads down and things weren't going our way they dropped off.
So we need to develop it on a consistent basis.

That is our Main Problem why we don't make the Top 4 is when we are down our Pressure is no where to be seen and Teams can easily handle us then

I think our biggest problem is our best is so far from our worst we just need to work on consistencey

That's what I was trying to say.

Good Example is when we smashed the Eagles by 100 points then the next week we were just able to Squeak past the Demons by 10 Points

I think this thread highlights something very important.
Most people have little or no idea what our game plan is, yet criticise it mercilessly.

Okay - Can you tell us Excaly what our game plan is?

Thanks Dave, that is exactly what I mean.

And yes, yes I can
Okay what is it?

I give my Answer after Yours to see if we agree or not
