Just saw that on the news, is quite shocking.

Hooksey is on the news atm.

Damien said "I'm absolutely stumped", i hope he goes elsewhere and shows us that we've made a mistake.

I hope Fleming plays for someone else and breaks back into the Aussie team. Hookes won't be winning too many friends making decisions like that.

im shocked that both fleming and miller have been shafted of a contract. Who could possibly be better than those 2 in Victoria?? they both have to be in the top 20!

We might see Flem and Funky playing for different states now.. which is a big shame.

Fleming has been treated very badly by both the national and state selectors in the last 12 months.

Think back to the last 2001 Ashes Test at The Oval. Fleming should have played ahead of Brett Lee in that match and who knows what would have happened if he had been given the chance to display his abilities in conditions that would suit him? Let's not forget that Langer's seemingly finished Test career was turned around by being given one final chance in that very same match.

Certainly Fleming is injury-prone and not young, but he's arguably a better bowler then Brett Lee, comfortably better then Andy Bichel and a million miles ahead of Michael Kasprowicz.

Hopefully his career won't end on such a lousy note.

It is about time the tough decisions are made with Victorian cricket. No point in keeping Miller, he hardly played this season, while Fleming is injured every 5 minutes. Tough decisions had to be made and it is about time they were done.

Who is the back-up wicketkeeper now that Peter Roach has been dumped ?

That is arguably a worse decision then the dumping of Damien Fleming. Surely hanging onto Darren Berry for another season instead of finally giving Roach his deserved long-term chance is going to prevent Victorian cricket from taking the steps forward it needs to.

dees01,

I absolutely agree with you. David Hookes has not been brought to this state to win any friends, he's been brought here to lift Victorian cricket back to where it should be. We need to be developing players who have the chance to press for Australian selection in the future, while developing their games at the State level. It's about time the Vics had more representation in the Australian test side apart from just Shane Warne!!

Keep up the good work Hooksey!! :)

Cheers!!

They're only without a contract.

If Fleming can stay fit and string some matches together, he can win his place back. If Miller takes wickets in district cricket, he can win his place back.

Why give a contract to an over 30 player who is never fit and a bloke nearly 40 who couldn't make the side last season? Hardly efficient use of money.

Wow, how the mighty fall. Just 12 months or so ago Funky was the test player of the year...now out of contract. Not surprising considering his lack of game time this season. However Flemo, definitely disagree with that one. Hope he gets fit and proves them all wrong.

If Flem goes to WA as rumoured then he will get more wickets than anyone in the Pura Cup this year. The ground suits his swingers with a nice cross breeze.I think Hookesy wants more of Lewis and Inness.Watch for Ashley Robertson to rise this year.

Victorias loss Is hopefully Western Australias Gain,
With alot contract money freed up by Katich Being an unloyal piece of $#*&$# , Fleming would be great, the hole Katich has left is easily filled by Marsh , Mueleman or Rodgers and we have Goodwin with Test No 3 experience to slot straight in this season whilst waiting for the three youngsters to develop.
We can add Fleming as in recent times the bowling stcoks have been low with Angel at the end of a glorious career and Williams was good last year ( another Vic) but still yet to consistantly prove and then that bunny Nicholson can be used to fullfill our wide and No Ball alotment for the games.

Fleming If your interested welcome to Western Australia we would be happy to have you on board and as someone has mentioned the WACA suits him. Bonus is he is no bunny with the bat either.

Hookes has said that Roach is still the number 2, just isn't contracted.

He believes that given he only has 20 contracts to hand out, that they are better served using his spot for a youngster.

After all, how often will Berry miss matches?

Matthew Inness is the only Vic fast who is as good as Flem. Mick Lewis is next and he's a hack at best.

I was a huge fan of Fleming, I reckon it's a very dodgy decision. It's true they can get picked without a contract, but what chance do they have in reality?

Also sory for Funky - but I think he will just be grateful he got his chance for Australia.

Doesn't look like anyone's lining up to pick up Fleming. Why would you pay $50K to someone you don't know is going to be fit or not? His best chance is to get 6-fors and 7-fors in district cricket.
