I want to see Jamar as a full time forward with Green by his side, SME and Spencer to ruck with Sylvia on a flank banging it long and fast to them

In: Martin, Sylvia,

Out: Spencer, Dunn

Hopefully Watts comes in for Round 3.

In. Sylvia, Martin, Garland
Out. Bennell, Spencer, Dunn

Easy!

Miller for Newton maybe? But that's essentially a case of replacing one hack with another.

The Pies will destroy us.

Any other team in the competition would have Miller and Bate dropped for that dismal performance. The sad thing is they wont because we have absolutely no-one to replace them.

I'm a fan of Bennell but i see him being dropped, He was completely out classed by Rhan hooper.

Dunn is gone.

FB: Garland Frawley MacDonald
HB: Bruce Rivers Bennell
C: Trengove Moloney Grimes
HF: Jones Miller Sylvia
FF: Petterd Green Bate
Foll: Jamar Davey McDonald
Int: Spencer, Scully, McKenzie, Strauss

In: Garland, Sylvia
Out: Warnock, Dunn

Possible: Bail or Maric for Strauss/Bennell.

Garland and Sylvia must come in if fit. Dunn is going nowhere, may as well stick with the kids instead of him. Warnock is wasting out time, he gets beaten too easily, its time to give Frawley the big go as number 1 key defender. Rivers should be made accountable like he was in 2004.

- Let Strauss get some solid form up at Casey before his next game so he can go in with some confidence

- Had enough of Spencer, it's all good diving on the ball but you can't just jump on it and do nothing anymore which he doesn't seem to understand

Just mindboggling.

Garland's played maybe 6 quarters of football (Casey practice match) for 12 months and somehow he is going to be fit.

He's coming back from a serious injury. 9 months out with stress fractures and he'll just slot in.

Warnock got pantsed by Roughead but considering the lack of pressure and cover of the midfield, Frawley and Warnock were lambs to the slaughter.

Strauss looked good for the first ten minutes but when he made critical mistakes, he went into his shell and lost confidence. We needed a leader to go up to him and tell him to keep his head high and go again. Don't worry, just back yourself. Did not see that from our "leaders" from where i sat. Stick with him. Head high and go again.

Brent Moloney was pretty much useless out there. Jones wasn't much better. Bruce was pathetic. 23 DT possesions but doubt one advantage MFC on field. Miller didn't take one mark until late. Pathetic.

Sylvia's jaw should be strong enough, just mental thing now. Shouldn't have lost too much fitness, hope he plays.

Out: Spencer. IN: Martin. Martin has been poor preseason but Spencer was poor in the real thing. Shifting deck chairs on titanic here.

Out: Dunn In Maric. Maric poor in preseason but Dunn is VFL standard. We need to get games into the right players for the future, Dunn isn't.

Out: Miller In: Sylvia. A non marking forward who is a shabby kick for goal. Gets bumped easily out of the contest with feather. At least hes' KPP size. Pffft.

Green was a focal target. 6 cms shorter but he has presence and he can take a mark. Players are confident to go to him.

Make a statement. Bench Bruce, Davey, Moloney at the start of the next game.

Actually I'll probably cancel my suggestion of bringing in Garland. He should get some VFL time first. Miller won't get dropped :(

As for Strauss, just because it was his first game he doesn't deserve to escape critisism. He's been given a very important roll (kickins) that players normally take years to earn and he was terrible. He was also very average in the Weagles practice match.

Don't take it as me writing him off or anything, he is young and yes it was his first game but he was deadset bad yesterday and a repeat against Collingwood should see him in the VFL.

We are ****ed next week after the way the Pies played today.

Shit.

If Garland played yesterday then he should be up to 10 quarters of football. If he played well then that would be 2 good VFL performances in a row. He was back running and training before that. I can't see why he would need more time in the VFL unless he hasn't found form at that level.

How much longer are we going to persist with playing Warnock and in doing so stopping Frawley being able to step up and take the full forwards. Just watching Collingwood with L. Brown, Cloke and Anthony I've changed my mind and will give Warnock a chance next week. But when it comes down to 4 (Frawley, Garland, Rivers, Warnock) into 3 I don't want Warnock playing unless he improves dramatically.
mate, it was his first game shut-up.
Nothing wrong with young players getting dropped. I agree wholeheartedly with MM. Strauss didn't look ready, if he does get a game next week he will need to improve to play the week after.

You're all picking Sylvia - is he that good a chance to play? Looking forward to seeing your young kids in the flesh.

He wanted to play against Hawthorn.. 99.9% chance that he will be back against the wobbles. I bloody hope so!

Without doing any extensive research, I would of thought a broken jaw meant four weeks out but if he misses only two then that would be a good result.

As for Dunn, as a midfielder he is gone but I still think there is a role for him up forward. If he fails then fair enough but I think he needs an extensive go at it (i.e. more than 5 minutes before being thrown back into the midfield).

Just on Brad Green, sat there on Saturday before, during and after the match praying that Bailey plays him as a permanent deep forward for the whole year. I think he could be a 50-60 goal player.

Assuming that Colin Sylvia is fit and Colin Garland will not be, I think that we have 17 definites to be picked against Collingwood.

Tom Scully: I thought that he had a super game. We should invest as many games into him as possible.

Jack Trengove: See above. I thought that he had great poise for a first game. First two picked.

Jared Rivers: Has been one of our better players over the last 5 years. He's finally injury free, so I would like to see him go back to his 3rd man up role. He's a fantastic player when he's at his best.

Ricky Petterd: He had a really good pre-season and with more inside 50s and better delivery throughout the year, I can see him kicking bags of 4 and 5.

Brent Moloney: I didn't think that he had a great game on Satuday - decent, but not great. We need him to get under the Pies' skins.

James McDonald: Vastly underrated by everybody, even many on this board. Even if he's not racking up the disposals, his tackling is sublime. I don't think he'll play against next year.

Nathan Jones: Needs to step up this year with the departure of Brock. He has the attributes to become a great clearance player for us and he backs himself. He just needs to work on his disposal.

Mark Jamar: By far and away our best ruckman. Played a good game on Saturday, needs to impose himself down forward when resting.

Jack Grimes: Future captain of the club.

Brad Green: In my opinion, our best player. He can play anywhere, is tough, has great hands and good disposal. I think that he should play deep in the forwardline, and Bailey should give him the whole 50 to himself. He doesn't often lose a 1 one 1.

James Frawley: Is developing well, and I think he'll become a very good defender for us.

Aaron Davey: Didn't have a good game after his breakout 2009. I'm a bit undecided as to whether he should play half back, in the guts or up forward.

Cameron Bruce: He can run all day, and would be a superstar if I could ever feel confident when he has the ball. Those loopy handballs make me cringe.

Matthew Bate: Probably had his worst game, but he was underdone coming in. He's usually a very consistent lead-up forward for us.

Colin Sylvia: He was one of our best last year and the sky is the limit, really. He showed glimpses last year that he could become one of the elite of the competition.

Joel MacDonald: Could be a good pickup for us. He was solid without being spectacular on Saturday.

Jordie McKenzie: One of the real bright lights for us in a pretty abysmal game all up. I hope that he plays every game.

B: ---; ---; Jared Rivers;
HB: Joel MacDonald; James Frawley; Jack Grimes
C: Brent Moloney; Nathan Jones; Colin Sylvia
HF: Cameron Bruce; Matthew Bate; James McDonald;
F: ---; Brad Green; Ricky Petterd
R: Mark Jamar; Jordie McKenzie; Aaron Davey
I: Tom Scully; Jack Trengove;

The way I see it, we then have 2 players that will PROBABLY be picked.

Jamie Bennell: I like this kid. There was one game against West Coast last year where I was especially impressed. He can run and carry.

Matthew Warnock: Has improved out of sight and has become a rock solid defender for us in the last couple of years. However, depending on match-ups and relative age (to our other defenders), I see him expendible.

So that leaves us with:

B: Jamie Bennell; Matthew Warnock; Jared Rivers;
HB: Joel MacDonald; James Frawley; Jack Grimes
C: Brent Moloney; Nathan Jones; Colin Sylvia
HF: Cameron Bruce; Matthew Bate; James McDonald;
F: ---; Brad Green; Ricky Petterd
R: Mark Jamar; Jordie McKenzie; Aaron Davey
I: Tom Scully; Jack Trengove; ---; ---

There are three spots to be filled by any of James Strauss, Brad Miller, Lynden Dunn, Stefan Martin, Addam Maric, Kyle Cheney, Jake Spencer and Rohan Bail.

James Strauss: Didn't have a debut to remember, but I think that we should stick with him. Dropping him after one game isn't going to achieve anything.

Stefan Martin: I would rather Martin over Spencer as a second ruckman, even though from all reports he didn't do much in the pre-season games. He's a versatile player and can play anywhere on the ground.

Addam Maric: I was a bit surprised that Maric didn't get the nod for round 1. He had some good games last year.

B: Jamie Bennell; Matthew Warnock; Jared Rivers
HB: Joel MacDonald; James Frawley; Jack Grimes
C: Brent Moloney; Nathan Jones; Colin Sylvia
HF: Cameron Bruce; Matthew Bate; James McDonald
F: Addam Maric; Brad Green; Ricky Petterd
R: Mark Jamar; Jordie McKenzie; Aaron Davey
I: Tom Scully; Jack Trengove; James Strauss; Stefan Martin

E: Rohan Bail; Jake Spencer; Lynden Dunn.

I never want to see Bradley Miller pull on the red and blue ever again.
