Denmark - Caroline Wozniacki & Frederik Nielsen
Bulgaria - Tsvetana Pironkova & Grigor Dimitrov

GROUP B

(2) France - Marion Bartoli & Richard Gasquet
(3) Spain - Anabel Medina Garrigues & Fernando Verdasco
Australia - Jarmila Gajdosova & Lleyton Hewitt
China - Li Na & Wu Di

France began with a 2-1 win over China yesterday. Australia play tonight against Spain.

Czech Republic easily have the strongest side on paper, and should win. They open their campaign tomorrow against Bulgaria, which is possibly the best contest of the week, and yet ONEHD aren’t bothering to show it, cheers guys. :thumbsu: Bulgaria have an interesting line-up, will be fascinating to see what Dimitrov delivers, and Wozniacki will be carrying Denmark but unfortunately we have to wait until Friday to see the women’s match of the week, Wozniacki vs Kvitova.

Only the eastern states on daylight savings have it live. ONE don't give a crap about this tournament now, whenever their contract runs out there is no way it will be on ONE. I suspect the tournament might cancelled after that.

Hewitt/Verdasco in a 3rd, Hewitt looking alright all things considered.
 
Australian Tennis want to take over the tournament with the long term goal of killing it off as it competes with the Brisbane tourney. ITF are also fining the women players (Hopman end up paying the fines) who don't compete in Brisbane for points.
 
It's a shame to watch what's happening to this once great tournament.

Delayed coverage (in some areas), no coverage (day matches), Tim Gossage + Littthhh Sssssmylie rambling on throughout the whole match with inane garbage (Tim Gossage FFS!!!!).

It used to be one of the sporting events I looked forward to all year when the ABC (and later ABC/Foxtel) had it, but now it's just a shambles. :(

I wonder what Hyundai make of all of this? Surely they can't be happy with the direction in which it is heading?

True, blame Murdoch and Packer. Also who made the decision to make Brissy a premier? Did TA push for it? Its almost like it was done to go against Hopman cup. They just built a new venue for it as well.
 
Coverage of the night session begins at 8pm here, and while Perth are behind, that seems a little late...

Surely that’s delayed? ONE are treating this tournament like a joke. Give it back to ABC/Fox before it's too late.

Not sure what the time is in SA. But it starts at 8PM in Melbourne aswell. There was nothing wrong with a 6:00 start yesterday.

The stadium was aso built for the Wildcats and concerts, but a major part of it was the Hoipman Cup.

Also TA clearly don't like the Hopman Cup because of McNamee and him getting top ranked players away from Brisbane.
 
I may be wrong but I think I heard the radio commentators say that the night session starts at 5 (so 8pm over here).

And yesterday it could have been a mid afternoon time slot over in Perth due to it being the only tie for the day.
 
Hewitt commentating. He gives good insight hopefully after his playing career he going into commentating. Nielsen(Denmark) took the first set 6 - 4. 4-4 currently in the 2nd set

Yeah the games are being shown live into Sydney & Melbourne, but delayed everywhere else.
 
I think the Hopman Cup is dead, there are some good players in it. Its not when they had the likes of Graf, Becker, the Sanchezes, Ivanisevic and many players of that ilk. Now its second rated event with second rated players.

Its a shame whats happened to this fine event. I did not even know its on and I dont really care about it. The Hopman Cup has been a great event over 25 years. I think it has run its race on the sporting calendar!! Maybe Perth should get a tour event and get many players to that part of the world!!

2nd rate field is harsh especially when you got the world ranked #1, #2 and #5 playing out of 8 women.

It definitely needs to get back on ABC. Onehd isn't doing it justice.
