Just my thoughts on the Ballantyne idea H2G.

My take on him is that no doubt he is fast by WAFL standards which allows him to consistently beat people on the lead and kick goals this way. An accurate shot on goal from a marked situation. Unlike Medhurst he isnt that good through the air, he is also very small in terms of AFL size (172cm), doesn't chase as much as you would want and doesn't snap goals on the turn the way Medhurst did/does.

I think the comparisons to Medhurst (IE. Top goal kicker / other awards) need to be balanced out by remembering that Medhurst attended the National Draft Camp, tested fairly well and still only got drafted in the late period of the draft.

I think Ian Richardson is a better prospect than Ballantyne in so many ways (Especially in having more "tricks", which is important as a small crumbing forward), and I think that is reflected in the fact that he did get an invite to the National Draft Camp. And to add to that, I am not convinced Richardson will get necessarily get drafted.

From a the point of view of what rumors has been generated from the club, Harvey/Roish have stated that we will go into this draft with the strategy to draft as much midfield talent as we can, so this counts against us drafting Ballantyne. In fact, the only linking of Ballantyne to us that I have heard is that recruiters from Vic/SA clubs have "guessed" that the West Australian clubs might take him as early as the second round. This statement doesn't make much sense because the position that a player is/should be taken is based upon the demand from other clubs, and clearly the level of interest is not there, otherwise he would have received a national draft invite.

Why would melbourne pick a player just because he can make an impact in his first year? So we can make the jump from 16th to 14th.

If you truley belive that we need players that will make an impact straight away, Then you are an idiot.:thumbsd:

And also Clancee Pearce is very average and won't get picked up before the 3rd round.

Pearce and Ballantine are stretches for mine and a lot of your descriptions could be a bit more detailed however enjoyable read.
