There's been talk of moving Scotland forward and we've seen a fair bit of rotation there, but why not put Houlihan back up there? He's not a defender (because he can't or won't tackle or worry people off the ball), yet he has immaculate skills and I could see him snap plenty, or create opportunities picking out a loose man.

I seem to remember experiments with him up in the forwards, but don't recall him having much of an impact, but I'd much rather him there than relying on him to provide anything amounting to defence.

I don't think we should ditch him altogether, he's got experience and enough skill to warrant another shot in another position.

Hoops should play the majority of the games in the forward line IMO. Knows his way around the goals, and he has proven time and time and time again, that given opportunity, he will deliver.

The time is right to play him up forward, and start giving some of the kids some experience down there - Grigg, Armfield, Anderson or Browne. Plenty of options.

You still have to tackle in the forward line- the ball does get swept outta there quite quickly these days for us. But if Houlihan can kick 1-2 goals a game then that would be where he is of best value.

What annoys me is that it seems so blindingly obvious to the casual observer (us) that Hoops is more suited to a forward/attacking role. Yet the match committee/coach consistently play him in a tagging/negative role.

What do they know that we don't? Why the hell can't they stick him on a HFF and be done with it. He's played well over 100 games for the club, you would think they would know what his strengths and weaknesses are.

The real question is, why does the coach play Hoops in positions not suited to him?

He started his career as a HFF, but thanks to Pagan, he ended up on the HBF. I would much prefer to see him on the forward line as an attacking forward rather than a defensive forward.

His skills at ground level would almost assure us of a couple of sharked goals a match.

150 + games :thumbsu::p sorry to be annoying, but agree with your sentiments.

Hoops

A talented forward / midfileder who can hurt the opposition with his silky skills.

Back - crap, too loose and leaks goals, sure he gives us a bit of rebound but gets hurt too often on the scoreboard.

I reckon Fev has half a mongrel everytime Hoops has the ball when looking to pass off into our forward line. Hoops is one of the best kicks going around.

Agreed - I hope he plays on Sunday on the forward flank! :thumbsu:

Fantastic skills wont chase, tackle, smother or shepherd. The 1% are important whether you are playing forward or back.

The scum would just play Shaw on him to exploit him and he is one of the few blokes Shaw would win the contested footy against.

I think Ryans best position would be in the Bullants. I have watched this guy time and time again and he does show flashes of brilliance. But he is soft at the ball and he chasing skills are average at least. Is he really the future of our club? Is he a good role model for the young blokes coming through? We need players who are hard at it week in and week out not ones who every now and then show their worth.

I think with Browne coming in this week Houlihan will push up to a HFF FP crumbing Fisher and Fev. Well i hope he does because he is certainly not a defender.

In a better team he would be a fringe player...shouldn't be getting a game this week on form...hff best position obviously...
get scotland into the midfield his not a defender as well...
RATTS START DEVELOPING BROWN, ANDERSON, ARMFIELD....ffs everyone else on here seems to see it but he doesn't?

Would be great if carazzo would stop believing his good enough to be a midfielder and become a hard nugget defender with plenty of rebound like when he first started at the club.

Book tickets for JR to go home now...ill pay

ummm thats about it...

ahhh i feel better :D
