i know its only 1 game,
but has the move of campo to the backline signalled the end of ryan houlihan as a backman or as a carlton player?

i have always thought that houlihan was better suited to a wing/HFF.

campo as a backman may help his career as he is now the hunter rather than the hunted.

Carrazzo and Campo have swapped from back pocket to midfield.
Simpson has the wing now.

Lappin and Houla are running out of positions. Do i hear the words "trade for what we need" ?

I was thinking the same thing about Lappin and Houla. Even though Lappin is getting older...the wiry guys tend to play on longer...so we should get something for Lappin. In some ways I feel sorry for Houlihan b/c he is a pure receiver and is ideally suited to a forward role. Pagan wants all players to be tough and accountable so its been a bit like pushing a round block into a square hole playing him as a rebounding defender. I think other teams will think Houlihan can contribute something under a different game plan/coaching philisophy.

I wouldn't mind trading both for Goddard...he might be suited to a large midfielder role (like a Kouta who is no that speedy) but hasn't been given a chance in the saints lineup...otherwise a first and second round draft pick would be nice.

I reckon Campo and Whitnall will stay and Lappin and Houlihan will be traded. Even if Campo wanted more money, no team will offer him enough more (e.g. $50000-100000) to make him willing to walk away from a club he played for his whole career. Whitnall has proven he is a required player and will only be traded if the offer it too good to refuse. Can they write fitness targets into contracts (e.g. fat levels, time trials etc)?

Tend to agree. Lappins form has been terrible in the past few weeks and if i were a betting man, I would be betting that Lappin will be elsewhere next year. Not sure what we'd get for Houlihan, although a 2nd round pick would be great. 1st round - just won't happen!!

Heard Whitnall answer a direct questions from Craig Hutchison on MMM yesterday. Hutchie asked Whitnall if he wanted to stay at Calton next year and he said Yes.

Campo - doubt too many clubs would be after him. Not sure about Campo's defensive pressure if he is to stay in the backline, so this will be something he'll have to work on. I'm sure clubs would try to isolate him one-out in the goal square.

I thought Campo was great yesterday in the backline.

Houlihan is gone, simple as that. I have my fingers crossed he doesn't play again in our side because he is a disgrace. Actually we should be praising him to boost his trade value.

Campo and Lance, the quicker we put pen to paper the better we should all feel. Lance especially, he is a required player and if he doesn't end up captain within 3 years I will go he.

Still think Houlihan is worth keeping and most probably on the ball. I remeber a game in Adelaide earlier this year where he was very solid in the midfield. I think his hardness or lack of is very much confidence based. At his age we should persist for at least one more year.

I dont think Lance wants to leave the club, no matter how much money rival teams offer - he has declared that is a true blue on numerous occassions!
