Disappointing year from a highly skilled player. His GF speech was embarrassingly poor. Hopefully Eric's return will make him less anxious as backline leader.

Yep ... same here. Siren went, we left the G, folded up my scarf for another year and headed off to the "Duke of West Coast" for plentiful beers!!!

Yeah .... as above, the pub was re-badged "The Duke of West Coast" for the weekend. Was packed with about 95% Eagles supporters before and after the game. Was there when a Daniel Chick look-a-like got thrown out much to the delight and encouragement of everyone there.

Im gonna upset a few..but the one crucial thing we lack from Bunga ( as well as Simmo) which rubs off onto the players is a little bit of mongrel..their all too nice..we lack that killer instict..The Govs 3rd qtr jesture to that boof head hodge says it all... no better example of this of the hawks mongrel is when they push you back into the turf.after every contest..its relentless & automatic..players use up.so.much energy to get up if the ground..only for a hawk player to put thier weight back on you .& push you back into the grass....that sums up their ruthlessness...which we lack..Take note Simmo ..nice guys finish second.

Agreed. We were soft in the GF. Hurn is up and down too much re his head over the ball. Hes not elite, but worse hes very inconsistent. Our senior guys in the GF were pissweak. I thought Shepperd and Gaff tried their gutzzzzz out ....and even though Shuey potatoed the ball a few times he kept trying. Our senior boys were nowhere. Hurn not captain material....he shouldnt have bullshitted post game trying to say the eagles werent overawed.....Christ Shannon.."the team bar a few young guys were like a deer in headlights".
It was embarrassing. When we had a chance to comeback and wind the screw our senior guys kept stuffing up...Lecca..Pridda...Hurn..Kennedy....Nic Nat...all useless.
Darling and Hill were extraordinarily atrocious! !!
Very embarrassed by our lads on the day.

This is the closest to the mark so far.

To the clown that have him a D you need to pull down your pants for a spanking.

Hurn has led a team that didn't have psychological conditioning into a Grand Final. The team choking doesn't mean the noose for the captain.

The captain will live and learn as will the team but leading by example yesterday Hurn was WC's best on field.

Hurn's performance as one of the most dangerous backs in the league and in the past to have a defensive tag makes him one of the really exciting players for WC.

He and Nic are the only WC player's in my top 5 out of the entire AFL this season.

A+ He threw everything he possibly could.

Hurn get's the Christmas bonus for the entire season.

Well done champ!

Hurn had an off year. One of the few who didn't have career best years. Had to sacrifice his role many times to play tall or just more defensively. Will benefit most by Mackenzie returning

I have to agree with all the "well thought out" assessments in this thread above. I mean what has WC achieved since Hurn has been Captain? Absolutely nothing! Went 9th on the ladder in 2014 to only 2nd in 2015. What the heck Hurn? And don't give me those excuses about our two key defenders being injured all season. That's no excuse for not winning the premiership and you should have been able to take up their slack, being one of the best defensive teams of 2015 and also be our best pinch hitting midfielder at the same time. Some people say your long kick is one of the most damaging aspects of our defence but really I think you should be kicking it in and then running down field to mark your own ball and then run and carry it all the way to the forward line and then slamming it through the goal posts. Simply not high enough work rate imo.

We really need to completely disregard the other 24 games we played throughout the season and assess you (and all the players) based purely on the grand final. I mean any team can make the grand final, well except 16 other teams that is. But I'm sure all of them will make it next season because they don't have Hurn holding them back like us. All these excuses that Hawthorn's team we played against being one of the greatest teams in history drive me nuts. If we had a different captain there is no doubt we would have easily beaten them on GF day. Because as some astute BF poster mentioned previously, the only gap in our GF performance was we weren't pushing people's heads into the dirt after tackling them. If we had of done that we almost certainly would have won.

Sorry Hurn but quite frankly I expected more from you. You need to stop focusing on implementing the best strategic defensive setup of recent times and instead just become a mean and nasty sod. That's clearly why we only shifted 7 spots up the ladder and not 8. I'm coming for you next Simmo - look out!

He used to clean campaigners up in the early days but got suspended a couple of times IIRC.

We have lacked leadership from our senior skiers for a number of years now. Hopefully the GF loss helped them grow a pair.

Good thing we have natural leaders like Duggan and Lamb in the wings

Agree in part! But that's at least 5 years away.

It is quite apparent that we lack the leadership of some of the other top sides. Other than Nic, who has moments of brilliance, who is capable of lifting the side through leadership and individual brilliance?
