Wasn't really sure on whether to put this here, in the backyard or even on the SANFL board but came across an interesting story over the weekend from a very reliable source.

Centrals have won 7 premierships since 2000 as we all know, an integeral part of them has been the Gowans twins. They nearly never pulled on a centrals jumper, they were all but signed to play for South Adelaide.

The recruitment officer at the time had been in touch with them, the deal was done all that needed to be done was for the contracts to be sent over for them to sign. The Gowans boys waited a few weeks and the contracts hadn't arrived so they started to ring this bloke from South but couldnt get hold of him because he was overseas on holidays. Kris Grant from Centrals got in touch with them, they said seem as though they hadn't heard back from South if Centrals matched the offer they would play for them instead.

The south bloke came back from overseas to find the contracts still sitting on his desk, by that stage the Gowans were centrals players.

Very Interesting well at least i thought so...

Geeze that's terrible work by South. Talk about unprofessional. Thanks for the comment mate, I found it interesting.

Where ever Daniel Healy decided to play back here in Adelaide, they were always going to play for the same club. Best mates with Daniel Healy after the St Kilda days.

Na Healy was delisted at the end of 1999 and the Gowans bothers debuted in 2000 for the dogs. All 3 came over for the 2000 season.

2000 SANFL GRAND FINAL - AT LAST THE FLAG! said:
Goals were a premium, with Stuart Dew and Daniel Healy each scoring three goals. Healy thought the midfielders, onballers and defence was great. "It was awesome, a great feeling. People talk about the feeling, but you have to experience it to appreciate it."

And Healy played for St Kilda in 1999.

Edit - you edited it, doesn’t matter.

No - came from Gawler Central.

they are lucky that the BL&G league is such a strong country feeder for them.
westhoffs x3, slade, symes, mackenzie, ohara, hurn, nash... i'm sure theres plenty more.

It doesnt surprise me to hear something like this, I bet the Gowans are happy with how things have ended up. South Adelaide are rubbish, I always worry that if South go down the gurgler that Glenelg might put their hands up to possibly merger with them

Thanks. Suprising he hasn't played at a higher level, don't think I have ever seen him play a shocker. Uses the ball well and is that low to the ground zippy/elusive type of player ala David Rodan/Tony McGuiness.

Yeah hes a good player. Didnt debut till he was 22 and he was only really a bit player till he was 25 or so.

Central are full of blokes like Slade. Very good footballers but not quite good enough to make the AFL. Its been part of their success story. Winning hard contested footy and playing super consistently is another part.

Doesn't this just some up how much of a rabble South are?

They will not be successful until they get rid of their pig-headed administration. If Jack Cahill and Robert Pymann can't drag them out of the dumps, no one can.

The way they treated Steven Kenna who was their best player was disgraceful.
