I reckon our September list is looking pretty good compared to last September. Player by player in no particular order.....

Grundy. improved
Pendlebury. Improved. Last year he was suffering from injury niggles
Treloar. Improved after playing at 50 percent last September after recovering from a double hammy
Adams. Break even. Fully recovered from injury and back to last years form
Sidebottom backwards but last month has been 2018 standard
Phillips break even
De Goey. Break even. Injury struggles both years
Elliott. Improved. On the park!
Stevo. Backwards due to enforced holiday but potential to play at his best in September
Cox. Backwards
Hoskin Elliott backwards
Thomas backwards but starting to hit 2018 form
Mihocek improved
Varcoe backwards
Brown improved
Langdon. replaced by Shaz.... net break even
Maynard improved
Mayne break even
Greenwood break even
Crisp improved
Roughead new but great asset
Moore on the park so has to be an improvement
Howe break even
Sier replaced by Wills so slightly backwards but not much

Overall our list is in better form than it was last year. It doesn’t mean much of course but you’d rather be in better form than not at the business end of the season!!!!

A fair assessment, although I reckon:
De Goey -has had more impact on the games he played in 2019 than 2018. Here's hoping for a final 4 week burst!
Langdon/Sharenberg -Sharenberg will need a big finals series to match Langdon's 2018 finals.

Overall -I agree we're in better nick this year, provided all those coming back can perform to their ability.

Hoskin Elliott backwards
Thomas backwards but starting to hit 2018 form

WHE played out of position (out of necessity) but recent return to fwd showing return to 2018.
JT welcomes WHE return as a similar player requiring cover. stevo and JDG return will add to that.
not missing cox.

Yes this is pretty reasonable, excepting Langdon as noted by McOrist. We'll have to see what side is actually selected before we get too clear on a comparison. I would say that Howe is less spectacular but just as effective as last year.
Thomas was slipping rather than building at finals time last year, but I still worry about his ability to find enough space to score under finals pressure. He may not play of course.
For what it's worth, my view is that De Goey could be the second tall forward to Allow Roughead to return to full back. It would force the players upfield to forget the long bomb and always look for an advantage kick. If there is a huge crowd in the goal square, then a mark is not that likely anyway, and the ground skills of DeGoey would be the most important consideration. Only my guess of course.;

We’ve gained Moore and Roughead and we’ve lost Cox and Goldsack from last season. 2 in 2 out

Goldsack been a VFL Player all Season and We looked better with Roughead up Forward then we did with Cox this Season

Can you please prepare a list for Geelong, West Coast and Richmond showing how far they have gone backwards? And why not Brisbane as well!

No. You’re welcome to start a different thread about them if you like
Not sure my knowledge would extend that far. But I do agree with your appraisal. Not only is our list currently looking better than this time last year, we have a much better run at it. Since the bye, whilst we haven't been great, the Cats have been a lot worse. Can't see how we lose.

Langdon >> Scharenberg.

Ridiculous how underrated Langdon is.

It’s a strange one, the list is in slightly better shape however I’d say we were playing better football this time last year. It has got better the last few weeks so hopefully we peak for the final month.
The side is ready for redemption, bring it on

I think people forget how much this year is mirroring last year.

If you look at our last 5 games last year:

Lost to Richmond by 28, Lost to Sydney by 2 Points, Beat Brisbane by 35, Beat Port by 51, Beat Freo by 9

Lost to Richmond by 32 (On par with Richmond Game), Beat Melbourne by 17 (Equivalent to a small loss against sydney IMO), Beat Gold Coast by 69 (Equivalent to rolling Brisbane by 6 goals last year) Beat Adelaide by 66 (Doing this away from home, I'd say it's even better than pumping PA last year) Beat Essendon by 11 (Look at how this game played out in comparison to our freo game last year, almost identical. Done by 3 goals at QT, down by a point at HT, Drawn at 3QT, and Final winning score of 76 points and JT Kicks the sealer)

All I'll say is, this time last year coming into finals, we didn't actually look all that good. We had moments, we still got pumped by Richmond, Belted by West Coast, lost close games. September is a different competition, and we have the fuel to win it this year, because the boys know what it's like to be so close. If we play WC in the GF though, smacks of 02, 03. :/

Cox kicked more goals than last year despite now as many games. I'd say he breaks even on that alone and certianly has it in him to improve past that if he gets his overhead marking right.

but he out Injured for rest of the Season

Cox doesn't really matter I guess as he ain't playing.

I would agree that Shaz isn't quite at Langdon's level yet in terms of intercept marking but I gotta say he makes me less nervous than Langdon with ball in hand...........doesn't have "auto-look sideways" mode like Langers.

Overall I tend to think that we're in better shape. Around the middle I think similar - forward (assuming JDG and Stevo return in form) I think an in form Elliott tips us over there. And back we have Moore and Roughy which could easily have been the difference last year.

Cox matters to the thread topic because I’m comparing years

Despite him being out of the side it seems we’re not missing him

Good assessment overall!! Well played.
if its based on our shape in September there are a couple I would disagree or have a watch on:
Adams: I think he is building well, but he was huge in September. If he snapped that goal late he probably wins the Norm Smith.
De Goey: I hope you are right with break even, but I fear he may not be as sharp, particularly the first match. Last year he played the last 3 H & A games and built momentum.
Stevo: We got very little out of him in the finals, except for a 5 minute burst in the GF. He could have a big impact this time around.
Thomas: He had a bad September, if he gets picked he might be in better form than last year.
Langdon: He was an absolute monster all finals, played out of his skin. His GWS final and first half of the GF were just so good! Scharenberg doesn't have that performance in him currently IMHO.
Greenwood: I feel like he impacts games more this year, and has added intercepting to his game. Very important now!
Howe: Rushed back for the first final and played with 2 other undersized defenders meaning he had to play lock down. With bigger bodies around him and a month of footy under his belt he is in great shape to improve his output from last year.

2018 GF Side:

B: Jack Crisp Tom Langdon Brayden Maynard
HB: Travis Varcoe Tyson Goldsack Jeremy Howe
C: Tom Phillips Scott Pendelbury Adam Treloar
HF: Jordan DeGoey Brody Mihocek Will Hoskin-Elliott
F: Jaidyn Stephenson Mason Cox Josh Thomas
Foll: Brodie Grundy Taylor Adams Steele Sidebottom
Int: Brayden Sier James Aish Chris Mayne Levi Greenwood

2019 QF Side (My Opinion)

B: Levi Greenwood Jordan Roughead Brayden Maynard
