Ok so we all acknowledge that in this town we have 1 poorly written newspaper that is in daily circulation.

The question is what can we do about it? Has anyone been involved in getting something like this promoted? I was thinking of establishing some sort of list with people who would sign up for another newspaper should it be brought in?

I gather it needs to be Fairfax given they are the other big media player but even they how do we convince them they could make money from it given print media is in decline?

More importantly will we ever get a second chance at democracy!?

As much as he reminded me of this bloke

He did have a point when he spoke on stateline recently reminding us the damage media monopolisation can do and his attempt to have people on the net leave there name and adress to any political comment during an election!. In fact former attorney general Micheal Atckinson was quite daming towards News LTD!

Subscribe to The Independent Weekly, if you like it, and hope that they have a plan to go daily once they reach a subscriber threshold and other key performance indicators.

Starting a daily newspaper is an expensive business.

This, also pick up and support the Adelaide Review.

And for the love of god stop buying and reading the current rag, if you need daily news read the Oz (although not much of an improvement) or the Age.

I've managed to remember to walk over and buy the Independent a few times recently, liked it enough that I've just put in a subcription so that my memory lapses are taken out of the equation :D

Going to pick up the Adelaide Review in town on Friday, hopefully while I'm in Borders if the outlet list is accurate, see if that's interesting enough for me to get consistently as well.

you get the media, like government, that you deserve.

Michaelangelo?

But I agree, if you want and or deserve news you'll get it. Personally I read the Oz and Independent Weekly and trawl through Adelaide Now, Le Monde, Google News and The Age.

The only relevant things to me i cant get from the above are about the crows that i get from here

I mostly use the BBC for news.

It's very 1950's of me, but unless someone can tell me otherwise it seems to be the international news service that currently has the least amount of bias, certainly after the number of times Reuters has been made to look a fool while pandering to certain middle east interests.

For local content, I really should stop reading news.com.au and switch to IW or the ABC.

the BBC is very biased, and only this last week a former director general of the BBC has admitted that there has been a systemic left wing bias in the BBC for generations that in his own opinion is just now starting to lift.

Can you find me a worthwhile international news service that has no bias?

Certainly nothing from the USA, nor Reuters, and apparently not the BBC either, starting to run out of options.

Try FoxNews USA - "fair & balanced" :D

As for whoever suggested The OZ - that is rapidly becoming the Australian version of USA FoxNews - you would be better served reading your used toilet paper :)

Nah, the Oz is rampant bias aimed at relatively intelligent people who already feel that way.

Fox News is in now way aimed at intelligence of any kind.

ok i will accept that (re The Oz & Fox News) - perhaps its the rest of the Murdoch empire in Aust that is fast going the way of Fox News.

I disagree with that too. I think the Oz has much more of a partisan bias than the rest of the Murdoch press.

The rest of News Ltd's operations display nothing but stupid populism, the way that the Ragvertiser ardently sits in Rann's camp is a good enough example of this.
