Well Boys and Girls Looks like its Time again.

Collingwood This week face Brisbane in The Grand Final Re-Match of The Last Two Years.

It is going a To Be One of The Toughest Matches we have all year. If There is Any time i think we coukld knock of Brisbane it would be This week with so many players out and Collingwood might actually break even or dominate with Brisbane in the Ruck contests.

That and The Whoel team Contributing on the Night is The Only Way we Can Beat brisbane.

Also to Physically Match brisbane would go a long way to beating them, We saw St Kilda take it up to them last year and come away with the four points, we did it in the 2002 Grand Final and were that damn close. Good Luck Pies. Hope you want It Bad.

A look at the stats from the first two rounds will show two areas that need to be addressed if we are to have any hope against Brisbane.

Firstly we need to cut down the uncontested possessions. Both Richmond and the Western Bulldogs killed us in this area meaning our boys played far too loosely on their opponents. If we do this again against Brisbane then a 10 goal plus loss is on the cards.

Secondly we need to improve our tackling. Last week was an improvement but against Richmond our guys tackled like girls. Over the last two years the ability of our guys to tackle and harrass opponents have won us many games but both those areas have been MIA this year.

Very true, both of you. We need the whole side to apply plenty of pressure to give ourselves a chance. Tackling, close checking and suoper concentration are the ingredients we need.

If Keating is out then we have a rare opportunity to control (or at least not be belted in) the ruck. This could translate to an advantage in the middle, and a major step to victory. Pies Lions games are always won in the centre square.

Certainly we have the forwards to kick a winning score. Brisbane don't rely on their forwards as much, so the uncertainties about Lynch and the return of the badly over-rated Brown matter little.

Both Michael and Leppitsch cramped last week. With a short week to recover I think they will find our height up forward perilous. Rocca may pull up sore too, but we should still be too tall around the ground as well. This will be less telling because its a night game, but its an advantage we must exploit.

Voss was magnificent in a very Lethal way last week, but he (and his team) give and take tremendous buffets with their brutal style of play. Sooner or later the pain will overtake them. Hopefully we are still in it by then and can outlast them.

I think the match will be a matter of survival, and if we win it'll be because we keep our heads above water with a massive team effort.

I like MarkT's idea of bringing in the earthy McGough to add weight at the fall of the ball. There is also an argument for including McKee, not to paralyse the opposition with laughter but because he is a solid defensive team player who can absorb pressure and stretch Brisbane for height.

Most probably we will see few changes (maybe C Cloke for poor old Davidson?), and I reckon we can win it, by less than 3 goals.

Seriously though key matchups:
Forwards;
Anthony Rocca vs. Mal Michael: This is usually a good dual and Rocca usually has the better of Michael, however need to watch out for him.

Chris Tarrant vs. Justin Leppitch: Tarrant eats this guy for breakfast but it's hard to see who else takes him. Bradshaw has done the job once before but if Rocca is standing tall Tarrants speed will carve Bradshaw up.

The mystery 3rd tall vs. Bradshaw/White: Whoever happens to be our 3rd tall at the time be it Cam Cloke, Fraser or *shudder* Kinnear will take one of these handy 3rd key defenders.

Matthew Lokan vs. Chris Johnson: Chris Johnson is a huge playmaker for Brisbane and Lokan needs to tag him out of the game, like he did against Wanganeen in the prelim. He has to keep with him when he moves up ground while also keeping him honest by trying to take a few leading marks. Lokan is pretty good on the lead.

Backline

Simon Prestigiacomo vs. Johnny Brown: Presti has a good record against Brown, he has beaten him the last 2 times in the qualifying and the grand final.

Shane Wakelin vs. Ali Lynch: These two have great battles, Wakelin needs to also be offensive as he is a great rebounder and a good kick. His running probably won us the game against Bulldogs.

Jason Cloke vs. Bradshaw/Charman/McLaren: Bradshaw is a good matchup for Cloke this is why IMO he should be kept in the side. He can also take one of the ruckman when they float down as they won't be quick to adjust to Clokes loose man gameplan. However Cloke needs to watch out for Charman he can be dangerous forward.

Cole vs. McGrath

Midfielders floating forward:
Ben Johnson vs. Akermanis (when forward, perhaps midfield too)
Jimmy Clement vs. Voss/Power

Midfield
Fraser/Richards vs. Charman/McLaren (sp?): If Fraser and Richards can direct their taps our midfielders don't have to shark out clearences against the awesome Brisbane midfield. Fraser should dominate around the ground.

Buckley vs. Copeland
Power/Akermanis vs. Holland
Black vs. Licuria
Burns vs. Voss
Lappin vs. Woewodin

Pike vs. Lonie: Pike is very dangerous and can play just about anywhere. Lonie can matchup well against him however needs to watch out for his strength if he is taken to CHF/FF.

Forget about goals. We need to kick more point than them.
We could be losing 10.0.60 to 3.80.98 and our boys will be floating around like millionaires if you tell them they only have to kick more goals.

:D

I played a Coll V Bris game on the PS2 last night and beat them 250odd to 40... If only... :(

If Tarrant and Rocca fire for four quarters like they did after half time last week we will go very very close.

Simple as that.

I just want to see the Pies fight the game out, and not lose by a big title like they did in the Grand Final. I hope they play somewhere near like they did in the 2002 Grand Final, but rather then going down win it.

The One thing i would like collingwood to do most this year (o5ther than win the premiership) is give brisbane a Good-old-Fashioned Belting. 60+ im talking here.

But seeing as the likelyhood of that happeneing is not much what i want to see out of the pies is player with Some determination, Game faces i will Call them. if we had 18 scotty burns' that would sure fix brisbane up in that department, but seeing as we don't have that many Burns', i say every single player needs to stand up and be counted as a Footballer, Not having a look to see where Jonathon Brown is, and Going in Hard all Game. Watching the Grand Final last year made my blood boil because the thing i hate most is when players are Scared and look to see who is coming, Just have a red hot Go. And i WILL Be a Happy Camper.

Come On Pies, you've let so many people down in the last two Years, Lets go out There and Show em we ain't scared. Everyone thinks we are, Lets Do it, and Stitch Up John Brown for stating the truth last year.

Go Pies.

i dont barrack for collingwood or brisbane but collingwood have no chance of beating brisbane even if rocca and tarrant fire for 4 quarters collingwood have bought in the biggest dud of all time can not handle pressure Rhyce 'Dont come near me lynchy' Shaw with that inclusion they have no chance

So you'd rather have his confidence riddle away with Williamstown would you, mate?

I'm going to back Mick Malthouse on this one - a top move which will make or break Rhyce's career.

Nope, playing for Williamstown will not help him bounce back. Hopefully Rhyce is good enough to bounce back and get into some form he had before the Grand Final, and maybe start to prove a lot of us wrong about him

There's got to be some method in Malthouse's madness, he must see something in young Shaw, other then his name for him to pick Shaw in the side. This will obviously be the last we see of Shaw if he doesn't pick up and play a half way decent game this week. He's been there awhile and only last year started to show something. Now it's time for him to prove to everyone he is worth keeping.

I think a lot of us (Collingwood supporters, don't worry about the outside fans) foget how well Rhyce played mid 2003. He provided brilliant run out of defence, and was very classy and played with a lot of flair.

I would love to see Rhyce in every week, however it looks asthough the mental scars from the Grand Final might be too deep.

And what wouldn't of helped would be the mistakes he made down back aswell. Wouldn't be the greatest thing for a player to relive every week. And then played a bad game in London.

The guy is an absolute dud, if his name wasn't SHAW he wouldn't be at the Club! Waste of a Draft pick.

How to win? Easy and hard.

They have to play the way they did in may 2002 when they beat Brisbane at the telstra dome.

The back six played very tight harrassing and spoiling football for 4 quarters. Never game a lions player a moment to think, nor the time to get a clean disposal away. These were the no name defenders who simply played tight and harrassed the brisbane forwards.

they were successful because the mid field put (similar) superb defensive pressure on the brisbane mid-field.
It also wasnt' given a nano second to get away with clean disposal.

Once in this deadlock situation for four quarters, it was then a matter of our forwards scrubbing a goal more than the lion's forwards.

Dour, tight low scoring game for 4 quarters.

Why did we win. WE DID THAT FOR FOUR QUARTERS. There were no fumbling two quarter wonders in that game.

If we allow an OPEN FREE FLOWING GAME the Lions will kill us.

There's got to be some method in Malthouse's madness,

Leg speed on a fast track is his thought process. Out go a tall and a small, in come two smalls.

Mick selects sides with a horses for courses mentality, and an unwavering confidence in his players to deliver when everybody else doubts him. It causes pain somethimes and it backfires a lot, but his had success by having faith in his players and putting the ball in their court to deliver. Leon on PF day last year is a classic example.

Last year about half way through the Year watching Rhyce Shaw Play was a Pleasure and His Run, dash and Flair was great, we need that back, in a tight game we need some running power.

Rhyce Shaw's judgement day is upon him, com'on buddy prove us all wrong and show us what you can do.

I don't rate the pies much of a chance but atleast lets get in a good four quarter performance...
