I thought it might be cool to see the broad range of skills people on this board possess as well as how they put them to use. Besides just seeing the different people that make up the GFC family it might be a great chance to network - your next plumber/developer/hairdresser etc might be found right here!

I am often on the lookout for copywriters, graphic designers, web developers - although I do a lot of that myself, as well as promotional people. I have found useful or amazing people in all manner of places I least expected.

Job: Tour guide @ Aussie Brewery Tours. We take local and international tourists on day trips to Victoria's microbreweries.
Previous Jobs: Software support and development/Project Management.
Skills: IT skills - can fix almost anything! Programming/hardware/networking. Have a fair bit of knowledge now on running a small business and the tourism industry.
Hidden Skills: Half descent copywriter.
Advertising/website/contact:
www.aussiebrewerytours.com.au

Again mods I am not to sure if this is against policy (advertising or some such) of the board. If it is, feel free to rip it down.

Cheers.

Re: How do you earn a crust - networking thread

Not a bad idea in the off season Scott.
I thought you worked at a bar?

And I need a bobcat driver / landscaper out Taylors Lakes way !! :)

I've done a fair bit.

Used to be an illustrator / draftsman in the Army
Then been through a myriad of stuff. Working in Sales for graphic design, working in sales in the Electrical Industry, running a vineyard in my own business, selling wine in my own business.

Now I run a manufacturing, wholesale, and export company in the electrical industry.

2012 will be big. We need to buy out a USA manufacturer in June, and need to set up manufacturing and sales presences in India and probably China.

If anyone wants to kick in 2-300k to help me get it done just let me know ;)

Re: How do you earn a crust - networking thread

i havent had any 'real' jobs yet...

i currently work two jobs, one teaching guitar at a primary school, the other is refilling charity gumball machines...

on top of this, i have been playing in an original band for a while. it earns a little, but there isnt much money in it, and the chances of making significant money are tiny.

im also studying law, and have two years to go. at first, i wanted to be a music industry lawyer, but now im not so sure.

Re: How do you earn a crust - networking thread

I work as a mortgage broker - not particularly exciting although I do enjoy the fact that you are constantly meeting new people and many are great people.

My eldest son is doing something far more interesting - finishing a film and TV degree. Has produced some outstanding pieces (yes I'm biased). I'm sure he'd be happy to assist with any small scale videos you may want to produce. Here's a YouTube clip of a music video he produced for a friend if you are interested in checking out the quality of his work - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSKM8VXQF8g

Re: How do you earn a crust - networking thread

I work as the Marketing Coordinator @ a leading Japanese Motorcycle, Power Equipment and Marine manufacturer based in Campbellfield VIC.

I have just recently started in this role, but basically I look after all the press ads, campaigns for the Parts division.

I am hoping to get some graphic design training/courses under my belt so I can begin to create more of the creative material in house rather than use an advertising agency.

Previously worked as a Parts Interpreter for 7 years.

I now work at a private Planning Consultants on the Mornington Peninsula.
I'm afraid I may have also cost you some business because I take all my friends to the brewery's on the Peninsula when they are down here, thereby ruining any chance they'll use your tour company :o. Sorry

Hey! I just finished my bachelor in town planning!

Any chance you can get me a job? :thumbsu:

Throughout highschool and uni I worked in a restaurant as kitchenhand/front of house for 6 years, and also worked at a law firm for about 18 months as an office assistant. I am now in Berlin and living it up on a holiday :)

Re: How do you earn a crust - networking thread

what is the ROI on said investment?

We've only ever done it with one other person. So I'd need to revisit what the figures would equate to now.

But effectively the deal was, for every 50k, money back on a sliding scale over 18 months. i.e. 1k each month for first 6 months, then 2 k, then 4k.
And 1% of net sales (per 50k) for 3 years.

In effect you double your money.

It would be more now. The later into our development we do it there are obviously going to be more sales so therefor the ROI increases.

100-150k of the money we need is purely for stock (a bridging loan in effect) whilst we decommission the tooling, move it, set it up, calibrate it, and get parts tested by a lab. There's no risk there because the stock will move.

They are not the same colonial from Margaret River?
My mate was head brewer there when they won their big awards and then he was poached to setup White Rabbit
