Cant agree with meyer.......the kid has no heart for the club, send him to the rock apes (port adelaide)[/QUOTE]

i have heard this so so many times about danny - and frankly, i want th club to react to it. i have posted the below in another thread, but i'm going to repost it - because the issue with danny really irks me - because we used such a good pick to get him. what do you guys think we should do with him?

well, i honestly can't say i have seen him do anything to say that isn't true. he doesn't show much emotion out there.

basically we invested a prized pick for him - we can either let him walk out to adelaide, (and we know either port or the crows will get the most out of him), get next to nothing for him - let him avoid ever having to put his name on the line in front of the media and thebig crowds, the humiliation of being a passenger in front of 40, 50, 60,000people.

or we can tell him

"like it or not, we believe in you as a player, we used a valuable assest to take you, so much is our faith in you as a player - so we are going to select you to play the remainder of the season in the richmond seniors.

If you want to put in sub standard, unspirited performance's for our club, and walk out on us - then we aren't going to help you one iota. we are NOT going to let you hide out in the suburbs playing for coburg, we are NOT going to trade you to a south australian side...

instead, we are going to make you play senior afl football -

you are going to play against players who really do give a stuff. players who will murder a player who is playing for the opposition to earn a win for their teammates.

you are going to be representing the richmond football club.

you are also going to be representing yourself, and your family

if you want to stink out there - you can do it where everyone can see, your family, your mates back home,& among everyone else - the thousand's sitting in the stands - we are NOT going to hide your performance away any longer.

if you go out there, and play like you don't care - then we'll let the supporters who really do give a shit about this club let you know how they feel about that - and you can look your teammates in the eye, and try and explain your performance after every game - because they give a ****.

Or you can go out there, and play like you do give a stuff - and re-pay the faith that this club had in your ability as a player and a person - and do the best you bloody can for us

take it or leave it Danny, but it could be an awfully long 13 weeks till this season ends"

no more free rides. no more hiding from responsibility. if its true he is tanking so he can go home - thenn don't do him any favours by hiding him at coburg - let him be humiliated for his performances - send a clear message out there that we dont take crap from our players.

port did it with stevens , carlton did the same last year with thornton and jordan russell - they refused to trade either of them, and threatened to pick them both up in the psd if they walked. stevens missed out in playing in a grand final side - both of thornton and russell stayed. thornton is playing fantastic footy - and russell is having to play his arse off to get a game - and is definitely not home in adelaide.

i don't necessarily believe danny is doing that to us - but many people do - and if thats the case then screw him - crash and burn.

if not - well, keep on trying mate :p

I don't believe he's doing it.

He knows he will get a one year contract on minimum wage with us next year, but he can't get a game for the 16th placed team and I've heard several people claim that the Adelaide clubs have never been interested in him since he's never been able to find the ball.

When you're playing as poorly as Danny has been then I can garuntee you any elite sporting athlete would play their hearts out to win back respect and credibility.

He is trying his heart out, he just hasn't been good enough. If I were him, I'd be spending all my spare time in the gym because his last hope of making it will come when he is strong enough to play inside instead of just out.

He's fantastic at Coburg so maybe it's a muscle thing. At least I hope it's not a case of him simply not being good enough.

meyer must start producing the goods, people would be growing impatient with his lack of development along with a lot of other youngsters. maybe he is just not the player they thought he was and if thats the case they need to cut him from the list and find someone else.

if its a case of him just not being good enough - then heads have to role for that.meyer and pattison for ottens was not a great trade - because we blew the picks.

surely we are in such a poor state we would have to be picking the best players available? the best bets to go on and make something of themselves

step up danny, the club needs players of your ilk to start repaying the faith

He's not up to AFL standard,it doesn't matter who good he was as a junior
if he can't cope in the seniors he'll never be any good.

:)Trade him to a team that will be worse than us next year...like Carlton, or Essendon (hopefully).
Why give him an easy out by trading him to the Crows or Power...unless we get something decent, which we won't.
He'll be like the usual suspects most of you call to be traded...the likes of Krakouer, Moore, Tivendale, Jackson and in years gone by Chaffey and Rodan. They have no currency at the negotiating table, hence you are stuck with them or delist them and gain nothing!!!
No one will trade for a guy you can get free in the PSD.
I was a fan of Meyer and thought he could be anything last season. Has quickly proved me wrong!

i like the kid when he first broke into the team he was good showed something i liked, but this year he seems to have lots his passion for the game. home sick maybe or maybe just need a few games rather than in one week out the next.

how do you solve the problem of danny meyer?

get a ****ing proper strength & conditioning coach at the club for one and also maybe GET HIME OUT OF THE ****ING FORWARD POCKET

meyer is the player when we are winning will look all class but when in a shit team he will struggle

its called a front runner and you can have a few of them in your side but we have too many

Straight swap for Meeson

Given our ruck stocks this may well be the way forward. Had high hopes for Meyer. Went to that Intra-club match at Punt Rd the week before the 2006 season and watched him do some beautiful things, most notably side stepping two blokes and goaling at pace from 50m out. Wonder what Wallace and the club's view is?

Totally agree... he is no different to the Giansiracusa, McMahon, Gilbee, Power, etc that the Bulldogs recruited years ago. They were absolute nightmares for the first 4-5 years as they were skinny outside players. Last year, when the doggies finally got their running game going... all of these guys started to look like legends.

They were given years to develop and l think Meyer will be the exact same player. The amount of crap that Giansiracusa got early on, is no different to what Meyer is getting... disinterested, no heart, etc, etc.

2.5 years in the system is not that long. Although frustrated as hell, just like the rest of you, l think he'll be a good player and well worth the pick 12 invested in him.

I dont want to get rid of him, l still have (blind) faith. It was bound to happen really, that of all the young kids we took in that draft, one was always going to take longer to develop. It just happens to be Danny Boy.

the thing with meyer is, despite how much he frustrates me, i do not want him to leave the list - i think he can be a player, thats mainly why i want terry to play him for a decent patch of senior games - BUT HE ****ING DOESN'T!

the comment about the doggies players is 100% spot on though, i spent a lot of time at doggies games in terrys last years as coach and players like mcmahon, gilbee and gia definitely copped some flack for being similar to meyer. they have came on to be quality players.

i'd prefer the list to be chocka's full of players with skill learning the importance of endeavour - and working on increasing body size (meyer, deledio, tambling, edwards )- with a lesser, but decent amount of hard working go-ers (king, foley )

can you just let the kid play seniors for a month or so terry - let us see what this kid has got mate - we are 0wins from 10 - we need SOMETHING to get excited about

If we lose/get rid of Danny then I see it as a huge failure of the RFC. He is only 2 1/2 years in and I have to say that a lot of people are far to impatient with our kids. It is our senior players that have let us down. Not everyone develops like Chris Judd, some take longer to develop. Especially when you are playing a FP in a team that hasn't won a game.

Time for us to invest some money into our strengthening and conditioning area and then we may see some better results.

Straight swap for Meeson
what swap an underperformer for an underperformer. meeson seems more destined for the scrap heap than meyer. meyer is in just his third season for a small he should be showing a lot more than he has. the dilemma is you cant hang onto players who arent peforming or improveing for to long. the trick is being able to detect quickly enough if they have the goods and the mental toughness to make it. one things for sure meyer is on thin ice. offer him for trade this yr and we might get something for him. wait till the end of next yr if he doesnt improve risk getting nothing for him. one things for sure to hang onto him we need to be pretty sure he will make the grade no ifs buts or maybes.
