It's at this stage of a season when I've finally realised that I haven't done that well at all (ranked in the 30,000's), and look back for an hour or so on what I would have done differently

The initial team is first on the list - looking back it's seems like I focused too much on durability rather than performance. Also my mids picks were sensational, to the detriment of everything else.

Would like to see how others fared.

Durability:
17-18 games: 13 players
14-16 games: 7 players
11-13 games: 4 players
6-10 games: 4 players
0-5 games: 2 players

Performance:
100+ points average: 6 players
90-99 points average: 2 players
80-89 points average: 2 players
70-79 points average: 5 players
60-69 points average: 8 players
50-59 points average: 5 players
0-49 points average: 2 players

While I'm not going to crunch the numbers like you, my team was pretty poor to begin with...made some horrible choices that make me think to myself 'What the hell was I on?'

I've used 18 trades up until now, about half were injury covers.

I picked Tippett in the rucks...which led to Seaby...which led to Kreuzer...which led to Jolly.

I tried to be unique and picked Lockyer...needless to say I had to get rid of him.

I listened to the 'hype' surrounding Medhurst and picked him...again, another trade.

Pretty proud of my backline (Kelly has been a quality pick), however I started with Gram and ended up trading him out.

Oh, and I picked Relton Roberts....over Pods. There's another trade rectifying that error.

Apart from all that my team has held up ok -_-

My initial team I reckon was pretty close to perfect, with Hille the only notable omission.

Twas top 10 after 3 rounds without using trades.

The Riewoldt injury set off a litany of horrible trades.

Where are you at now Falcon Strike?

Mistakes.

Mid Mistakes = Shuey and JKT as mid bench. Meaning I had no back up all year. Traded JKT to Gysberts, Still no Back up Too Many mid rookies (5)

Back Mistakes = picking Adcock and Gram (although this couldn't have been known) Choosing Hunt and Ladson over Malceski and Waters.

Forward Mistakes = Mayne, Dangerfield, Ziebell (went for too many mid pricers given rookie mids)

Ruck was OK pretty much went to plan. Sandi and Nic Nat, then always planned on upgrading when Cox price fell and Nic Nat and got a small price rise.

That's me. Picked some wrong "premiums" at wrong times but thats trading mistakes not initial team. That's a whole new story :(

My initial squad mistakes:

What i had (Should have had instead)

Tippet (Hille)
Banner & Shuey (Howlett/Moles + Bastinac, or even Scully)
Shaw (Malceski)

Everything else was pretty much spot on. So ended up a little short on cash vs. top 100 avg team value and used a couple of trades on tippet and shaw that others might not have had to use.

I think your focus was a little missing. To be honest, you focused a little too much on Power players and players that look good but are not DT stars. You looked at their skill set, not their DT scoring ability.

Terrible.

Tippett, Lockyer, Clark all picked as (potential) keepers all turning into gigantic spuds.

No Swan, Montagna, Ablett, Waters, Ladson (performed ok early), Maguire, Chapman, Sandliands or Nason - all semi-popular picks that performed admirably.

Will do a full team review (starting squad, trades, captains, etc) when the season is completed.

It wasn't too bad, missed out on some cheapies like Hille in favour of Tippett, went with both Medhurst and Hall up foward. However, backline has worked really well and has been my strength most of the year. Maybe should have started with another rookie in the midfield (only had Martin), but I can live with that. Scored well over 2100 in round 1, but after a couple of 1800's in rounds 4 and 5, ballooned out to 18k overall. Now back to 3069, and hoping to finish well inside the top 3000 for the first time ever.:thumbsu:

initial squad:
B - Enright, Goodwin, Carrazzo, Shaw, Hodge, Malceski, Waters, [Maguire, Farmer]
C - Bartel, Gibbs, Boyd, Trengove, Martin, Barlow, [Shuey, Banner]
R - Cox, Naitanui, [Warnock, Trengove]
F - Riewoldt, O'Keefe, Pavlich, Harvey, Franklin, Dangerfield, Rockliff, [Gumbleton, Roberts]
bold = players to have played every game for my DT

backs :thumbsu::thumbsu:. nailed it with Malceski/Waters/Maguire.
mids :thumbsu:. should've opted for a Swan or Ablett. Shuey/Banner burnt me.
rucks :thumbsd:. sold Cox then ended up buying him back. missed out on Hille.
forwards. was cornered into Roberts over Pods to cover a rd1 donut.

overall (868th) :thumbsu:. main problem was not owning Goddard, Chapman, Ablett, Swan, Montagna, Sandilands right from the start.

Started off fantastically (first time in 5 years) in top 500, and like Falcon strike it all went wrong with Reiwoldt....except I didn't start with him and traded him in the week he did his hammy.

Screwed up my trades badly, to the point my average has gone DOWN over the course of the year, and am carring at least one, if not two zeroes into finals each week. My highest score was in week 1, and 4 of my five highest were in the first 6 weeks.

Where are you ranked now then?

Sorry, deleted that bit. About 16,000!

Picked probably the best combo of cheapies, except went Ladson over Waters. Had Maguire, Nason, Barlow, Scully, Trengove, Banner, Warnock/Seaby, Podsiadly, Hitchcock, Peterson.

It was once the games started I fell in a hole. Clarke - Seaby - Cox hurt, as did upgrading to Reiwoldt the week before he did his hammy, then to Rioli (OP scare), then to Brown (last decent score before the crash). Makes it worse when it's your own team, and "inside" info turns out to be false.

Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Shaw, Ladson, Malceski, Waters (Maguire, Silvagni)

Ablett, Bartel, Pendlebury, Barlow, Martin, Jetta (Sheuy, Banner)

Sandi, Hille (warnock, mcnarmara)

Riewoldt, Pavlich, ROK, Gia, Franklin, Medhurst, Ballantyne (Hitch, Gumbleton)

Issues I had was the 6th mid spot, should've gone Trengove over one of them, and not having Chapman. Possibly should've started Maguire instead of Shaw/Ladson and grabbed Chapman instead of Medhurst.

Frankly, not good enough

Backs: Hodge, Goddard, Enright, Waters, Waite, Ladson, Maguire (Hunt, Nason)

Midfield: Bartel, Mitchell, Cooney, Barlow, Ebert, Martin (Bastinac, Jetta)

Rucks: Sandilands, Hille (Warnock, Trengove)

Forwards: Pavlich, Franklin, Zeibell, Kennedy, Reiwoldt, Murphy, Giansiracusa (Gumbleton, Peterson)

Bold players are those who are still there. However, between Franklin, Waite and Mitchell, they cost me for too long spending time on the sidelines. But for heading into the finals ...

Backs - nailed it. 5/7 keepers from my starting squad is pretty good in my book. Definately my strongest line over the course of the year, and I don't think I ever had a donut here

Mids - weak. Barlow was obviously a star, and Ebert was good enough early til I traded him (avg ~92) but guys like Cooney and Mitchell didn't deliver to the extent that I hoped they would

Rucks - perfect. Sandilands has obviously been a star and Hille was great until he went down injured. Trengove provided all the cover I needed until I made the trade. Having two playing reserve rucks allowed me to take my time here, which is a luxury I was very glad to have.

Forwards - Oh dear. 2 keepers, one who missed 4 games and the other who is struggling at the business end of the season. Could not seem to pick a winner here for most of the season, though it is showing good for the finals amazingly

Overall - 6/10

My initial team:

B: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Shaw, Harbrow, Malceski, Ladson (Farmer, Maguire)
M: Ablett, Bartel, Barlow, Scully, Trengove, Martin (Shuey, Jetta)
R: Sandilands, Tippett (Warnock, 77k)
F: Riewoldt, O'Keefe, Pavlch, Giansiracusa, Franklin, Medhurst, Wright (Gumby, Hitchcock)

Look back at it, there were a few glaring mistakes. Number one was Ladson over Waters. I got burnt by Hentschel the previous year, and didnt want to take the risk on another extremely injury prone player. Bad decision, cost me a shed load of points and cash. The rest of my backs were awesome though, spending all that cash proved worthwhile.

Starting four mid rookies was probably a mistake, although it ended up okay. The mid rookies cost a lot of coin to upgrade, would have been better of starting with one more gun - upgrades are cheaper in the forward line.

Tippett and Wright were the other two mistakes. Going with Hille would have let me get Hall for Wright, which would have been heaps better. Medhurst was average, but there werent a lot of good options so im not that annoyed with that pick.

Backs: Hodge, Kelly, Carrazzo, Shaw, Waters, Maguire, Morris (Silvagni, Farmer)
Mids: Boyd, Bartel, Goddard, ROK, Barlow, Martin (Trengove, Shuey)
Rucks: Sandilands, Tippett, (Warnock, McNamara)
Forwards: Riewoldt, Harvey, Gia, Ziebell, Dangerfield, Hall, Gray (Rockliff, Hitchcock)

  • Goddard/ROK purposely picked in mids with DP's to provide flexibility. Still undecided over its' importance this year. Morris pick still mystifies me, although his 77 did win me into a league final last week.
  • Two guns, two DP's (Goddard = gun anyways), two rookies. Trengove did his job. Shuey stunk it up.
  • Tippett. Nothing further needs be said.
  • Got Rocky from the start, missed Pods. Went too mid-priced here, and the Riewoldt to JB trade instead of Riewoldt to Chappy really hurt.

Backs: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Waite, Malceski, Shaw, Waters (Maguire, Nason)
Midfield: Bartel, J.Selwood, Mitchell, Barlow, Martin, Trengove (Bastinac, Shuey)
Rucks: Sandilands, Tippett (Warnock, Lobbe)
Forwards: Riewoldt, Pavlich, Harvey, Franklin, Giansiracusa, Ballantyne, Hitchcock (Rockliff, Gumbleton)

Backs were good apart from Waite who got dropped early in the season and I decided to trade him out, Shaw also was too inconsistent and is now gone.
Midfield did their job apart from Shuey and to a certain extent Mitchell hasn't been very good this year.
Rucks - Sandi has done well. Tippett was a bad pick and was gone a long time ago. It was either Trengove or Warnock so doesn't really matter they score about the same but Trengove has gotten more games I guess.
Forwards - Ballantyne was a bad pick other than that was good.

B: Gram Enright Duffield RShaw Hodge Waters Hunt (Maguire Nason)

Grams injury opened the way for Goddard, Rhyce Shaw MASSIVE flop, traded back to gram 2 weeks ago, Hunt poor choice over malceski (who had the hammy scare that put me off). good bench

C: Gibbs Selwood Watson Ebert Martin Barlow (Shuey Banner)

Gibbs poor, selwood slow start but good now, watson solid, ebert good mid pricer, but mid pricers are seemingly irrelevant now, upgraded after a few weeks with a nice price rise. shuey banner injury/selection issues wasted trades

R: Hille Kreuzer (Warnock McNamara)

Both injured, hilles 6 week hammy injury and kreuzers knee result in a ruck combo of clark/hmac which have lifted recently

F: Riewoldt OKeefe JBrown Giansiracusa Franklin Tippett Gumby (Relton Hitchcock)

riewoldt turned into sylvia who was awsome then injured himself, okeefe a bit of a let down, brown, franklin, gumby, hitchcock all injured/suspended at some point, and relton well he was bad. tippett pathetic, when i heard about knee tendonitis traded to ballantyne which was stupid. a very poor year indeed seems me ranked 8000
Bold players have been in the team all year. Lack of gun premiums, too many average premiums

DEF: Goddard, Enright, Hodge, Shaw, Malceski, Ladson, Waters (Hunt, Maguire)
MID: GAJ, Pendlebury, Selwood, Trengove, Martin, Barlow (Jetta, Shuey)
RUC: Sandilands, Hille (Warnock, McCauley)
FWD: Riewoldt, ROK, Pavlich, Gia, Franklin, Dangerfield, Wright (Gumby, Hitchcock)

Looking back, I actually had a pretty decent starting team. The notable mistakes were clearly Wright and Dangerfield, both of whom didn't average or increase in price anywhere near what I expected from them. I nailed the midfielders, defenders and the rucks though which was quite pleasing.

I'm ranked 93rd now which is actually quite suprising because some of my trades have been absolute shockers. For instance, trading Waters to Scotland before his 155 against WCE was a very silly mistake. Also traded Hille to Ryder (RD14), Gilbert to Hargrave (RD12) and Dangerfield to Sylvia (RD6) all at the wrong times. At least a couple of them (Sylvia in particular) are starting to regain some form now.
