How good would we be if it had happened

ok well when i was in melbourne recently..... Dees01 and i met up b4 the game and we went to the pub. On the way over we were talking about the merger and that, and one of us mentioned what it would be like if we HAD merged with Hawthorn... Can u imagine a team with a forward line with the likes of Holland, Croad, Schwarz, Dixon, Robertson Green and co in it ?????? A mid field containing Woewodin, Crawford, Yze, Rigoni et al. A defence with the power of Neitz, Hay, Walsh, etc.... a ruck dept with White and Thompson as a fill in????? i mean seriously How good would it be????? AND........ u know what a team like this would mean......... NO BRENT GRGIC !!!! i mean come on... who wouldnt like that


So what do u guys think???? sorry if i missed any players out, but i dont know too many hawks...

Two things would get in the way of a merged side containing all those players.
1. Salary cap. Crawford, and Woewodin are Brownlow medallists and would command $500k per year, Holland, Farmer and Hay wouldn't be far behind, then throw in Neitz, Harford, Croad, Schwarz, Dixon, Chick, Yze, White... something's gotta give, and I reckon it'd be a few of the talls getting traded.
2. Team balance. Any side containing Holland, Croad, Schwarz, Dixon, Robertson, and Green up forward, and Neitz, Hay, Thompson and White around the ground, would be too top-heavy - and that's presuming you leave out guys like Rawlings and Barker who have been excellent for Hawthorn this year.

Having said all that, a combined side would have probably the best 22 of any team in the competition, even after salary cap and team balance situations had been addressed.

Yes I do remember that Dee girl, and sometimes I do think "if only". It would have been a powerhouse for many years to come. But then you could say it would not have been the same.

we would have a lot of talls, but at the same time, when u think about it, some of the players both teams HAVE drafted since wouldnt be there now, AND / OR some of those players that i mentioned wouldnt be at the melbourne hawks now. (god i hate the sound of that. let alone the thought of the colour scheme )

Maybe woey or Crawf wouldnt have won the bronlow medals, what we have to realise is, that with the merger. things that have happened since wouldnt have happened..... so maybe the salry cap might not be an issue....
