Is Lids falling by the wayside? He seemed almost irrelevant today, in a game where he should have been dominant. Some very ordinary disposal on a few occasions too. Seems as though he has been by-passed by some of the other guys, to the extent that if he wasn't in the team, he almost wouldn't be missed. I'm happy to be howled down, as I haven't seen the last couple of games before today.

I guess the hugely positive point is that, if this is true, massive development this year for us, where Deledio and Cotch haven't been that influential, but it hasn't mattered as so many other guys have stepped up a gear.

he's having a poor year but he is super important take him out of it where one classy player down and cotchin or martin get rpd also he takes attention of ellis and conca

I swear it was only a few weeks ago where people were saying we were hopeless if Lids got tagged out of a game, 23 touches, 8 marks, decent game.

Needs to harden up ... Delicious skills, just won't put his head over the ball!
... Should be on the same level as Joel Selwood

Has put his head over the ball for his entire career. He won't duck though, so doesn't get too many kicks for too high. Joel Selwood is just kamikaze-like at times. Lids is not and will not ever be quite like that... But that in no way means that he doesn't put his head over the ball....

Don't confuse laziness with softness - they don't give the Army award for courage to softcocks.

Detests me we're trying to turn him back into that soft HBF flanker when he should be permanently off a wing rotating in the middle running forward and kicking goals like last year.

I reckon he's injured. He's the best kick at the club and currently outside Foley he's probably the worst in the team. Never see him kick howlers and he regularly dishes out 4 or 5 shockers per game.

Yeah, he hasn't been great since his injury earlier this year. Just goes to show that we've still got a heap of upside in players like Lids and Cotch who can go up several gears.

Thought he was ok without being great - was hard for players to stand out yesterday with so many players having decent games.

Brings lots of pace to the side, 'usually' very good skills and is one of the most versatile players on the list (can play forward, mid or back). Normally the first player that opposition teams try to shut down due to the impact and influence he can have on a game. He's the vice captain so all things considered, I'd say his value is pretty important to the team

This is a difficult one.

He's still important. He does set up plays early which rewards others later so it goes un seen. Like the inside work of players like foley and tuck, players like that don't get noticed but they still remain very important.

Last bounce of the Gold Coast match last year ... watch the replay, watch who goes to ground ... Looks like Casper got him!! :)

Ok, watch the other 180 odd games of his career. Look who puts his head over it.... plays under duress, never misses games, he's a gun, end of story

He is down offensively and his kicking has been well below his normal par but i think he is tackling better then anyone in the side at the moment. Over the last 4 weeks i've seen him lay some great lunging tackles that he almost shouldn't be able to make.

Speaking of lunging tackles, Dusty on the wing yesterday. :o

In answer to the OP I think he's becoming less and less important this year. Last year I was thinking we had our big 4 (Dusty, Lids, Cotch, Jack) and we needed to win flags before Lids retired. Now as we see Conca & Ellis step up, Vlastuin's potential, he's become less important and we will be a very good team for a long time to come.

It was a fantastic tackle.

Dusty, Cotchin, Vickery, Jack, Conca, Ellis and Vlastuin damn it FJ is doing such a horrible job nailing those 1st rounders, time to move him on ;)
