I know we are re-building and we all know that is a very slow process, but if we don't start to show some improvement, Bailey might be in trouble.

IMO I have faith in Bailey's coaching ability, but in saying that we can't just get pumped by 50 odd points every week.

When will he start feeling the pressure?

If we continue to get belted in this fashion for half a year with no signs of improvement i think hes in trouble personally. The dees woes have been largely ignored in the media but something has got to give.

Heres bailey explaining why we lost AGAIN.

DEAN Bailey said that Melbourne’s kicking and decision-making were the reasons behind its poor performance in the second and third quarters of the 57-point loss to Port at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

Bailey said an inability to make the most of their opportunities cost the Demons dearly in the match.

“It was the second and third that we just turned the ball over and they just made us pay,” he said after the match.

“The game is about kicking the footy and if you don’t kick the ball well you open yourself up to turnovers and we coughed up a few too many.

“They swept it from their back fifty to their forward fifty pretty quickly and we just couldn’t win the ball back when they had it in their hands.”

Bailey said that Port Adelaide kicked some easy goals against Melbourne, but that the team showed a bit of fight in the last quarter.

‘I thought some of our guys kept at it. It was good to see them still pushing hard in the last quarter, still trying to make things happen”.

Bailey said that he was pleased with the effort of the young players, and that this was a crucial time in their development.

“We got some more experience into our 22-year-old ruckman John Meeson, got some experience in Jamie Bennell, young Neville Jetta had the ball in his hands a couple of times, and I think with a bit of experience he would have got something out of his kicks inside fifty. At least those guys are making a contribution.”

Bailey said that after finishing at the bottom of the ladder last season, the team is committed to improvement.

“Their attitude has been fantastic considering last year, the preseason has been very good, their application has been first class and I hope they get some reward for their effort.

“I can see it coming.”

I'm glad he can identify why we lose but what is he doing to fix it?

And if i hear any more praise about how good our last quarters are when the game is completely done and dusted i will vomit. Such a cop out.

does everyone agree that Dean Bailey would have to be close to one of the most boring speakers of all time. Watching the press conference afterwards he nearly put me to sleep. No wonder the boys cant find the motivation to get revved up, CAUSE HE'S TO DAM BORING!

Who else is on offer in the coaching department? We'd have to consider that first.

THIS GUY!

1. His team has just been taken to the cleaners, bent over and been given the proverbial anus molesting, you expect all smiles and giggles?

2. "Revving up" the players won't do anything if the players suck to begin with.

3. Press conferences aren't supposed to be entertaining.

Im talking in general, I Have never seen him with any emphasis when he speaks.

I can see a plan and improvement from Bailey and our team and so long as that continues then I'd like to see Dean have his contract extended at years end. Two years with the amount of restructure we are experiencing is not enough for a fair assessment of the coach IMO.

Yeah he is a very dry bloke, no charisma at all.

I just want to see some improvement. I gotta say if we get flogged again next week, questions will be raised. With Wonnaeamirri, Wheatley and Whealan back next week, i expect nothing more than a 15 point loss. Richmond are shit aswell!

I remember when Clarkson took over Hawthorn, we belted them in the first 3 or 4 encounters, one game Port won by 117 points. Williams stressed in the post-match address how good a coach Alastair is, that he inherited a team in transition and is building to something. It feels much the same way with Bailey to me. I think coaches should be judged when they have enough elements to really work with.

When Hawthorn had two top five picks, they got Roughead and Franklin.

When it was our turn, we managed McLean and Sylvia.

Life is not fair.

Precisely, Hawthorns situation has to be the closest to ours. Clarkson had the torch on him, but his committee stuck by him, knew he had a plan and the ability to execute it. Patience is required. We didn't take Bailey over candidates including Sheedy cause he's a nuffy. Mick Malthouse said it well on 'one week at a time', quite often the difference between a good coach and a great coach is a great coach had a great list.

Not alot Bailey can do. And he's good in press conferences, theres only so many ways you can dress up 'we are not good enough, we dont have the quality of players, and the ones we do have are a way off their prime'.

I'd just like to see us tackle alot more and really focus on pressuring their ball carrier, anyone can tackle.

An old cliché but very true in our current circumstances -
"You can't polish a ****"

We are ion the right track. I was extremely encouraged by the first one & half quarters against Collingwood. Our ball movement was very good but the boys tired and dropped off. I haven't seen any of the game against Port but it is historically a ground that we have always struggled at. We need to keep playing the young kids & find out if they are worthy of spots on our list. Bailey is doing exactly that and should at the very least be entitled to see out his contract which from memory was a three year deal.

4 years

2008- Clean out all the oldies (4wins)
2009- Clear out the rest of the crap (4-6wins)
2010- Start improving (6-10wins)
2011- Finals or very close to playing finals (9-13wins)

I havent really had a good vibe about our previous 3-4 coaches, ive had
no faith in them whatsoever.

But, I have faith in Dean Bailey, I like what he is about - and he is in
no danger in losing his job, everyone knows how bad our side is - and that
we are playing kids, so why sack Bailey - before he has had his chance..

Sacking Bailey would be a step backwards, it would be an irratic move
that we could do without - especially after McNamees sacking and our
financial woes, Bailey is sharing Jims vision - and its a long term one.

Bailey is safe this year, unless we have an absolute shocker (I'm talking 0-2 wins only). But I am confident we'll get 4-5 wins this season. Our backline is quite good, the midfield can be competitive every now and then, all we need is some forward power to get over the line. With Robertson and Wonaeamirri still to return, there is a bit of hope.

2010 will be the year that Bailey will really begin to be under the microscope. If we don't manage +6 wins, then I think he could be in trouble.

l reckon if there has been no improvement by the end of this year he will be under pressure and possibly out
