The prestige of the Brownlow is overemphasized, it's a deeply flawed reflection of who the greatest players in our game are, in that it ignores roughly a third of the players who play, yet is recognised by all as the league's premier award.

I just realised that the Team of the Century only has 3 on the interchange bench.

Considering that teams are now allowed to have 4 on the bench, should the AFL re-visit the TOTC and add a 4th player to the bench...and if so, who should get a gig?

I could be wrong, but they may have added another player to the bench in the last couple of years.

Collingwood have no players in the original team, could be that they added a Collingwood player...not sure....

for the TOTC from 1897-1996?

Don't get me wrong, W.Carey is one of the best players I've ever seen, but I think he unfortunately falls into the category of only having half of his career in the period where he would be eligible for selection. At the end of 96, Carey had only played 8 of his 15 seasons and although 1996 was probably his best year, 98-2000 were probably close to being his most consistent stretch of footy.

For mine, Lockett or Coventry has to go close to getting that 4th spot on the bench.
