He was on fire last Saturday kicking 4 he could have kicked about 5 or 6. I can see him kicking about 50-60 this year. Although because we spread our goal kickers out so much he might kick that many. Thoughts on how many he can kick?

With our spread I can't imagine any single player kicking in excess of 60 by themselves this year, which is a shame because I think Dawes could kick a bag of 70+ with the way he's improved.

If he stays fit and plays FF for the majority of the season, anything under 40 will be a disappointment. 40 to 55 is a pass mark and 55+ is a great achievement.
Yep, agree with this assessment.

I picked 60 after I saw his NAB Cup campaign.

I don't think our forward line structure would necessarily assist in him kicking much more than that.

Unless he ends up with like over 70% or so accuracy in which case he could hit 70-80.

70-80 is elite forward range. Dawes isn't an elite forward. 50 odd would be a good return from him.

Jack wasn't an elite forward in 2009 either.

You hear of breakout years much?

He's not as good as Riewoldt (either of them). Jack could kick 100, and regularly kick 70-80. Dawes I think is more Roughead range, around 60, with the potential to have a season of 70-80.

50 should be the minimum aim for him however, particularly if he is played out of the goal square for most of the season.

I'd be more interested in the total of Cloke and Dawes combined. They both swap playing deep and further up the ground. I think Cloke will spend more time further away from goals than Dawes this year so you would expect a 3:2 ratio or somewhere around that mark to Dawes. 60:40 would be huge and a minimum of 70 goals between them I think is acheivable.

People will say if he kicks 70+ we'll win a flag but it only matters the goals and how they play in the finals.

I agree with this. I remember my expectations for him prior to the NAB cup was around the 40 mark. It seems I have underestimated him not for the first time because he looks to have improved again considerably. 50 or more is very possible.

Perhaps foolishly, I put $10 at 81:1 on him for the Coleman. He was at 25:1 early this week so his odds have come in considerably since last week. There are others in the competition who will probably finish ahead of him, but injury is always a possibility to even up the race. I had that Olympic ice skating final in mind in which Mark Bradbury (?) went from 4th to 1st after the field fell over in front of him. If he can get 4 which should have been 5 in a game where we had 13 goal kickers, he must have a chance of kicking a decent total this year.

I must say I'm certainly one that is eating humble pie in regards to Dawesy.

Didn't think he was ever much chop, particularly as I thought Anthony was a better footballer. I was way off.

Improved out of sight, taken his opportunity and never looked back.

I'd say 40+ is a realistic achievement. If he hits 60+ that is a massive year.

People are harping on how our game style doesn't suit big bags of goals, however, in the past few years we haven't had a powerhouse full-forward ala Brown/Riewoldt. If Dawes does continue to improve, and can assert himself on the competition he can quite easily kick 65-75+.

The mor goals he starts to kick, the more he will command of the ball, it is just natural that players will kick it to him if they know he is going to pluck it and convert with a goal.

4 a game to get 88 and he'd win it, no one will get 100 this year. Jack reiwoldt is most likely. I'd say 75 might win it this year so he's definitely started well.

Nice bet mate, hope you get it!

In contested situations he is using his body strength far more than last year, however his improvement in marking over head will allow for what I would hope is a 70 goal season.
Our midfield and zone is designed to create the turnovers, giving us fast rebounds and hey presto- Dawes is leading up the guts with opponent a meter behind.

It's like our very own Roughhead and Franklin one-two punch, if Dawes isn't an option, chances are Clokey's free.

I think saying he could kick 100+ is a bit over the top. Well at least this year anyway.

You may have missed my point.
The OP asked how many goals he "can" kick this year; 100+ is not outside the realm of possibility, though very improbable.
You may have noticed I then said that 50-70 is far more likely, and at around 2 goals a game if you factor finals, not too much of a stretch.

Either way he should be our highest goal scorer for the year. I say 50+
