What harm does a bit of arrogance do if it's on your own board? Seriously, it's our board and it has no bearing on the outcome
I am so over society being pc all the bloody time, so I don't mind a bit off arrogance on our own board. I think people need to lighten up a bit about this thread.

Our history as a club should demonstrate to you the folly of showing arrogance. Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

1 point will do it for me.
With a kick after the bell.....taken by S.Buckley as he is carried off the ground on the shoulders of his team mates. Then we shall see the double standards of the muppets that jeered him last week!

I must be showing my age or he's showing his.

I'm just a bit superstitious about being too confident, was there for the long drought :(

Me too. A lot of posters don't understand what it truly means to be a Collingwood supporter.

I think Buddy is such a big out for them, it really doesn't matter how much we beat them by, really, all bets are off the next time we meet them, which would be finals

Conversely, if they beat us, then they can take a large amount of confidence forward into their next clash

Important we win this.

Dont care about credibility. Just got to make sure we win so as to lock up a spot in the 4 and probably just as importantly to dent Hawthorn's chances of making it. I think they are probably our biggest threat as it stands so if they didn't make the 4 it would be a huge coup. This week is the definition of an 8 point game.

am i the only one who believes we had a team largely run down by flu or similiar when we played carlscum ?
that was a blip in the radar. back on track now. margin is irrelevant, but should be comfortable, with the best 2 missing.

I just want to win, but given Franklin won't be there (or will he?), I reckon we'll win by a fair amount.

Against quality opposition, Hawthorn just play like a different side when Franklin isn't there or has no influence on the contest.

This "no win scenario" idea that some posters have is ridiculous. A win gives us an 8 point break on these so called "premiership favorites". Yeah, so what If buddy didn't play. I dont recall hawks supporters talking down their victory in round one against the third youngest side competing that week.

I'll take the win, by whatever margin, along with the confidence that we can beat these guys and show that nothing has changed since prelim final night

Go Pies

Yep, completely agree with this.

Mate I am 37 years old and whilst I was just a young kid when the Pies lost so many GF's late 70's and early 80's, I can still remember the paid and anguish my old man suffered. Even to this day he still doesn't like to talk about all the GF losses he's witnessed and how we lost the unlosable flags.

My old man was about my current age in 1990, it was the first time he decided to not go to the grand final. When we had our drought breaking famous win that glorious day in October, he wept like a baby and couldn't control himself. It was a bit confronting to see your old man cry like that when you just regard him as some big invincible he-man type of bloke. It also represented a massive release of all the pent up frustration and heart break over a few decades. It showed to me how much it meant to him to win a premiership and how much you invest emotionally in supporting the Pies.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is this: I know, appreciate and understand what it truly means to be a Collingwood supporter. I've witnessed it, I've felt it first hand myself in 2002 & 2003, and I think it is okay and not folly to be a little bit arrogant on a board that is really meant for only Collingwood supporters. Surely this is the one place where you can just be a little bit over the top optimistic, arrogant, call it whatever you like but ultimately I think it's fair game here. Stuff what other supporters think or say about us.

I do read some of their posts and I know that they have an over inflated opinion of their prowess. However, when I say they can't use Buddy as an excuse for a 7 goal loss, I'm referring to educated colleagues and friends with opinions I respect. Not the brainless twits which represents a big number of posters on the Dorks board.

Very reserved on the Hawks board. A couple talking up our chances but most of it is very measured and gives due respect to a good Pies side. There are certainly no...... 'how much do we need to win by......', threads.

What we can do with a win this week is seriously screw Hawthorn's chances of a top 4 finish and pretty much blow up their season.

Great 2008, "How much do we need to win by" is a completely reasonable question to ask.

"How much will we win by" would be open to your critical interpretation, but not the former.

Also, I did read the Hawks prematch thread, and didn't really get the impression it was very reserved.

I have no fingernails, little hair and a jumpy disposition. I've sat through 2 drawn GF's in the stands and watched unimaginable horrors unfold in front of me for over 40 years. All of this I owe to Collingwood Football Club and I would not have it any other way.
I have not forgiven myself for expecting a big win against the filth week before last and changing my lucky undies.;)

Could you please restore the lucky undies for Saturday? As one infamous Carlton president said after beating us from relative nowhere in a GF: what's better than beating Collingwood by X million points? Beating them by 5 points! Totally arrogant, self-centered spin - but with a grain of truth: just win today.

As they say at the end of Gone with the Wind: 'tomorrow is another day!' For too long Pies have aspired to be 'wannabies who done good' or those who finished top but were 'full of sound and fury, signifying nothing' - just happy to get to the champers event and cheekily 'tips their hat' to their social 'superiors'.

Hang tough. 'Just win today'. That is the only focus. Who gives a stuff by how much?

In regards to the OPs question, it's not really about the margin, it's the nature of the win, if we do. Whether its 4-5 goals or 10-12 goals, it's going to be about how well our midfield dominates theirs, and minimizes their entries into the forward 50, it'll be about our clearance stats against theirs, our forward efficiency ect.

I hope that makes sense. We beat them around the ground comprehensively and the margin won't matter.

In saying that, I agree with the majority in saying I'll take the 4 points in any way possible as long as it involves no injuries, Cloke having a big one and our midfield continuing on with their sublime form. I reeeeeally want Beams to smash it up and get a standout BOG, just cos he has just re-signed.

Pie eyed, you neglected to mention that odd twitch with your eyeballs and that one shoulder's a little lower than the other.

And what about the fact you haven't drawn the curtains at your place since 1970??

I won't state this as fact, because I haven't had it 100% confirmed, but is it also true that you haven't left your house since 1979 and have all your meals delivered to the door in sealed brown paper bags... :)

Make sure you are wearing those Reg Grundies this week!

Margin doesn't matter re Hawk because if we beat them we go 8 points ahead and Hawks unlikely to mke that ground up on us. Margin matter when considering Sydney WCE and esp Adelaides % as we would love to make some ground on them

Biggest thing this week is a win over Hawks might effectively lock them out of the top 3 and leave a battle for 4th between themselves, WCE and Ess. We need a win to keep us strongly in top 2 calculations as that is where the vast majority of flags are won from especially in years where 3rd and 4th are big chances to travel.

Margins are irrelevant. Don't get bogged down by BF dick measuring contests like we beat this team by x, you only beat them by y, so we are x-y better than you. Each game is different. Matchups, injuries, six day breaks etc play big parts into how you start and finish. No one's season will end regardless of the result as you could drop/win the unexpected later in the season. What is important is internally the coaching staff of each team will learn from mistakes or matchups, and be better prepared tactically next time if we meet again.

The lesson here is last year you smashed us in H&A, yet the margin was a lot closer in the Prelim. Which mind you, you wholeheartedly deserved to win, BECAUSE YOU DID.

No offence, hope you have a good game with noo injuries, but still lose.:p

What an idiot! Any win will do. They have buddy out, but don't forget we still hav 5 or 6 good players out and we have 4 or 5 kids in the team! We are 10-1 to win it this year to be honest!
