How does the GF Ticketing System work? Who gets what?

Cheers

This was in the Addy a few weeks back, I stole it off Cats Claw.

CATS fans will have to buy their Grand Final tickets by phone or over the internet this year.

The AFL will introduce a system where fans will have to log on to a Ticketmaster web site or phone and provide their club membership and credit details to become part of the annual tickets ballot.

The new system will end the week-long annual pilgrimage by fans to their local ground or outside Ticketmaster outlets to get their tickets for the final.

An AFL spokesman confirmed last night Grand Final ticket sales would be an online affair.

``It is something we did last year with West Coast and Sydney and it was very orderly and worked well'', he said.

``Our main concern is to get rid of the discomfort of the queuing up in the cold and wet. This is something that we can do to make the purchase of the Grand Final tickets a much more streamlined affair.''

The four clubs competing in the preliminary finals on September 21 and 22 will inform their members of registration procedures in the week before those finals. Once the two Grand Final teams are known they can apply online or via the phone for their tickets.

The number of tickets available for the ordinary club members will depend largely on the priority membership deals at the competing clubs.

Major sponsors and coterie groups will receive priority before the remainder of the tickets are then released to the general membership.

There have been problems in the past with online ticket sales, most notably in 2004 when Ticketmaster7 was unable to sell tickets online because of technical problems with its website.

The agency had to hire an extra 100 staff to answer telephones at a call centre to cope.

Under the present system, AFL members are unable to buy online while Melbourne Cricket Club members wanting a reserved seat in the Members' Stand will have to apply online to enter a ballot for this year's grand final.

That ballot begins on August 12.

A little bit off topic but..

A mate of mine told me the AFL said that no one has ever missed out on getting a GF ticket if they wanted one and were an AFL member with club support for a competing team. I hope liek hell his right :D

I'm gonna have to get an AFL membership next year. Cats look like they'll be playing in multiple GF's over the next 3-4 years. No, I will not keep a lid on it!!!

Massive improvement still to come from Selwood, Hawkins, Nablett and Blake in 2008.

Nothing...I'd pay to miss it. Its a theory of mine since I missed the NAB Cup victory in Adelaide last year. Prior to that I have attended every finals game Geelong has contested (bar Porty Adelaide 2004) since 1989 including all 4 day GFs and 3losing preseason GFs.

Seriously, if it meant Geelong were to win, I would watch the GF from Antarctica. And if we get there again, I'm not sure my heart will make it.

im in the social club so i would hope it wouldnt be that much considering i have already forked out 500 odd bux just for the membership.....that said, the limit on the visa is $500 so i would happily max that out if i had to!!!!!!!
