We have another 5-10 years of the same minimum!

I said this in a thread on OER. link If we finish bottom the next 2 years by playing kids we pick up:

2 priority picks, 2 first round picks, 2 second picks in the top 20, 2 F/S, 2 out of contract players in the PSD. Add a trade of two in that equation plus a couple of kids coming through and that's 10-12 or more new quality players on our list in 1 1/2 years. Choose a decent coaching and recruiting staff who understand modern footy and can develop kids properly we can still get out of this mess.

Yeah mighty Tiges.. but the problem is that those picks wont start performing for around 4-5 years anyway. And thats presuming things become further worse.

We only need to win 2 games to lose a priority pick, and with all the talk from supporters this year of actually wanting to finish last instead of a competitve 7-8-9-10-11-12th Im sure the AFL will finalise or alter the conditions of priority picks.. Then again maybe they wont, as they don't want ANY clubs to be sitting on the bottom long. They seem to like the cyclic process of from top to bottom back to top in 3 years.

I swear there is a curse on the place.

Tigers on wrong end of Rocca rout

The Kangaroos have bounced back to their winning ways, overpowering Richmond in the second half to record a 74-point win at Telstra Dome on Saturday night thanks to an eight-goal haul from Saverio Rocca.

Having lost six out of their last seven matches, things looked fairly grim for the Roos when Matthew Richardson’s major just after half time put Richmond seven points up. But under pressure, the Roos’ senior players responded superbly, wresting control of the match with a six-goal third-quarter burst that broke the Tigers’ resistance. A 10-goal final term then powered them to a percentage-boosting success, 24.10 (154) to 12.8 (90).

Richmond’s star players, Matthew Richardson and Nathan Brown, worked hard all evening with the former kicking five goals and the latter getting plenty of the ball, but they lacked support. Wayne Campbell, reported for a third-quarter confrontation with Harvey, found some touch while Andrew Krakouer, with two goals, proved an occasional headache.

Rocca, however, had a night out, improving on his heartening recent form to kick 8.2 in a vintage performance while Leigh Harding provided a good foil, kicking three majors.

While it was the hard work of Daniel Harris and Troy Makepeace that had kept them competitive in the first half, it was the senior Kangaroo midfielders that coach Dean Laidley had implored to lift in recent weeks that provided the drive in that the ‘premiership’ quarter. Brent Harvey and Anthony Stevens were particularly damaging, while Drew Petrie’s move into defence opened up the forward line for Rocca, who made the most of it.

The Kangaroos made a lightning start with Rocca threading two goals from set shots inside the first four minutes. Harding added another and it wasn’t until halfway through the term that the Tigers got their first through a long left-footer from Joel Bowden. But inspired by a 12-touch quarter from Nathan Brown, the Tigers rallied to kick two of the last three goals of the term through Richardson and Brown himself, and closed the margin to 10 points at the first change.

The second term belonged to the Tigers, as they pegged back their early deficit with two goals in as many minutes from Krakouer and Brent Hartigan. The Roos strung together consecutive majors of their own, but the momentum had swung Richmond’s way and with a Brad Ottens’ six-pointer, another from Krakouer and a behind on the siren from Brown, the Tigers were one point clear at the main break.

Richardson extended that soon after the resumption, but the Tigers wasted their chances and the Kangaroos made them pay. They kicked the next six goals, including an improbable snap from veteran Anthony Stevens from the 35 metres out on the boundary in the left forward pocket.

The Roos were moving the ball much quicker into their forward line and the likes of Rocca and Harding repaid the favour by kicking goals. Michael Stevens, Corey McKernan and Harvey also posted majors and by the final change the margin was 29 points thanks to Rocca’s goal on the buzzer.

Richardson was single-handedly keeping the Tigers in the match and he kicked his and the Tigers’ third for the half early in the final term. But Rocca had an answer to everything Richo could muster, and the veteran kicked four in the final term. That set the scene for a blue-and-white bath late in the game, the Roos adding 10.3 to 3.0 to top of a great performance and move back into the top eight.

To rite.

I am giving the club my support for one last game vs fremantle. Then im all for priority. Every get aboard the dogs and hawks cause if they get over 6 wins and we finish last with less than 5 wins then we get picks 1 and 2 in the draft thats very good. Plus one of the saints stars maybe if they cant afford them.

That's true Feriss it'll be 4-5 years after these newbies play around 50-60 games but we've got to start somewhere otherwise we'll keep wallowing and chasing after 8-10 wins every year like we have for the past 20 years.

Plus it can't get any worse than this and I'd rather what kids giving their all and making mistakes from being inexperience than watching highly paid senior players making mistakes because they are not up to AFL standard and will never improve.

Yeah I agree mighty.

It's time to play the kids.. play every kid on our list who has potential and wont be harmed from promotion.

Drop the players who will be gone at the end of the year, and see if they can help Coburg to a decent season because as you say, they are certainly not up to it.

Play the kids, win one more game and let's hope we have some decent recruiters at the club come years end.

I agree too MT and Ferriss.

Also having half a coach at the helm will make an incredible difference.

Spud has dragged this club down to his loserdom level for the last 5 years.
No more.

He's the first that's gotta go.
Then the coaching panel.
Then Casey.

Wallace.

Realistically. If there is such a word at Richmond,
Wallace is the obvioud choice.
Uncontracted, hard edged, mid range price and tactically capable.

Sheedy can go and get stuffed.
Why would he come to Richmond,he's got a job.

I wonder if another club would 'draft' frawley for the rest of the season.. Im sure Richmond would be happy to pay half his salary.

Clinton the sabatour?

From what I have heard, this year's crop of young players is going to be very good, it would be a good year to be stuck with priority picks.

If you get a mature bodied player who is in the top 3 players of this year then they will have an impact almost immediately.

Pavlich and Judd have been able to show their class early. Even someone with a relatively frail body like Wells has shown his skill in his first and second year, they just need to be played intelligently.
