How would a Northern Territory team go in the AFL?

I think if they were helped along with a local academy (similar to the Sydney set-up) it could go really well. The thing about Darwin / the NT is they love their sport. There is a real AFL following there unlike on the Gold Coast. I'd much rather see the NT or Tas get a team than the Gold Coast.

Agree since the NTFL here is growing into a more popular league. The last grand final (st marys and wanderers) looks like it pulled at least 3000-4000 spectators. The regions without a major team (Tas, NT, North Queensland) funding to help grow the interest.

The next "new" team wii be when North are sent to Tassie circa 2020
GCS and GWS will be proven unsustainable not long after and be ushered off to Darwin and Canberra respectively.

GC may have a large population, but sporting teams are never sustainable there. Look at the Titans, for example. Queensland is a rugby league stronghold and yet the Titans arent even sustainable financially.

The Suns have the same amount of members as the Titans, both of them are sub-11000:

If darwin had a team, there would easily be more than 11000 if you compare the interest levels.

As for GWS, I think there is possibly a future there for them if they continue to play in Canberra. ACT is a neutral territory for sport.
