Easty i reckon good independent candidates will do well in the next Federal election, but you can stick your One Nation up your arse, ill never vote for a party who thrives on getting votes by persecuting minorities, and has an uneducated bigot as leader

I would like to reply to some of the views on this thread- I will of course not defend everything as somethings clearly, can't be defended.

Suprisingly, the Labor Party did this quite successfully during the Hawke and Keating years. In fact, Keating (before the Recession) used to boast about being the lowest spending government since Federation. They were, the ABC was not immune from Keating's rasor.

"No, we are opposed to a GST on books and educational materials."

This was never one of Howard's "non-core" promises, however, to clear things up, there is NO GST on university textbooks.

"We will never privatise Telstra"

Privatising Telstra has been Liberal Party policy since 1991.

"No public school will be worse off under our new education funding formula."

I went to a private school. It may suprise you to know that most private schools are not like Kings School or Scotch College. Most are woefully underfunded and underresourced. But to clear it up, no Public School was worse off- this was never argued by a member of the public school system. There opposition was merely class warefare and self interest ie we should get that money not them.

Would you believe that the Kyoto protocol actually allowed Australia to INCREASE so-called greenhouse emission. No doubt the polar ice caps will melt in ten years because of this scandolous decision!!

This is rubbish obviously, but you have to dismantle Medicare somehow. :D

I totally agree with you James 2. You are spot on.
On One Nation, some of their "policies" are OK while some are just pathetic.
On the Howard situation, I'd like to remind you that 2 months out from the 98 election, the Howard Govt. was polling in the 30's yet got up to win. So perhaps, it is not quite over yet.

Good to see Howards policy backflips havent fooled anyone, opinion polls today show the coalition sliding further backwards despite little Johnnys policies on the run, now hes promising more tax breaks!! Perhaps well have to close more public hospitals or less funding for schools to pay for them, oh well guess he can promise anything he wants he knows he want be around to implement anything. Complaining about the GST are u?? Until u get a qualified accountant/financial planner to add up ur savings under the new system, please don't offend me by spreading your ignorance. I guarantee u (I've written tens of thousands of words in essays on this), you will be surprised how much of a tax break u r getting, PARTICULARLY lower income earners. I laugh at some of ur arguments tho ("...ignorance is something that so many suffer from, yet it is those who suffer from a lack of knowledge that put forward their 'opinions' the most"), it makes for good reading...
