Also in reference to a previous poster who suggested he may go to the Gold Coast - I highly doubt Essendon would allow that happen, especially considering he is a local northern suburbs boy and from a fairly close-knit family as that article I posted above alludes too.

As a mad blues supporter it kills me to say this, but in 3 years he will be the most important player in the comp. I first heard about him 3 years ago and had hoped he might find his way to the blues. Melbourne and the other 3 clubs above you will regret not picking him. He is easily the best player from last years draft.

The fact we chose Yarran over Rich hurts, but missing out on Hurley by 1 pick hurts even more. My only comfort is that GC17 might offer him 2 mill a year and he leaves the blues arch enemy.

Won't happen. Essendon would be mad not to offer him a contract and let him slip. The outrage in fans would be evident, and I wouldn't be surprised if Windy Hill was burned down!

Also, Hurley wouldn't give up on a team he has obviously gotten comfortable with. And he is aware that among all other recruiters, Essendon's Adrian Dodoro and Merv Keane saw him as someone who could play at both ends. Money talks, but everything else walks.

There is no way Hurley will leave the club. He loves footy and was always going to be a player who would fall in love with whichever club he started at. He is a one club player.

Good article, but a little out of date. This was written up 3 days before the Hawthorn game. 3 days before he was put up forward. 3 days before he kicked 4 great goals and assisted 2.

I'm sure after what we saw in Round 22, he'd love to play up forward as well. What a star!
