I'd take Sam Darcy, and its not even close. Nick Daicos isn't anything special. We are not talking about an Ablett Jr type of talent - who copped a proper hard tag each week. Daicos cannot handle a hard tag without compromising team structure. His efficiency and effectiveness hasn't been up to scratch since hes copped more attention. There are even Daicos GOAT threads on big footy. He needs it all his own way to even be a top 3 players on the ground most weeks.

Yes Nick Daicos is a talent and yes he will more then likely be in the conversation as a GOAT.

Daicos was the best player in the comp in 2023. Injury robbed him. ATM he's favourite for the brownlow. Yeah. Daicos isn't that good. He's the best player in the comp.

My point is about season output.

When have I not accepted it?

I am very accepting of it - for 2025.

But we have just another year where specific midfielders - this year it is Smith, Richards, Dawson. Last year it was Heeney - have career years, and their output is equivalent to Daicos, who has been doing what he's been doing since year 2 in the system.

They would be of a 'similar ilk' if they are playing at the level consistently, year on year out, in the way Daicos has.

Let’s not ignore the obvious fact that Nick got a jab in his ankle and played through the injury when judging his full game shall we? His coach confirmed he was sore. Not that it changes anything, 8 SIs to 6 anyway if you want to compare games. And the 8 were in a defensive closed down game with few scoring opportunities, the other one in a shootout.

That said I agree with your point that one quarter or one game and even a handful of games mean nothing.

The obvious observation to me is that, like Nick after he truly announced himself, Darcy is getting extra attention (hence the umpiring comments etc). Something to work through, but again just as with Nick, that extra attention allows others to get off the leash. See Sidey earlier in the year for us, see Naughton for you in the last few games.
