Ok, in this years draft there is one super midfielder (Gibbs), followed by roughly 4 or 5 super KPP (Hansen, Sellar, Gumbleton, Thorpe and Riewoldt).

By seasons end, if Carlton have the 2nd pick and Essendon have no 1. Do you reckon it is possible to trade:

our pick 2 + player X to Essendon for pick 1

What player would player X be. Would a Houlihan, Sporn, Livingston or Saddington fit that place?

Im asking this because, if Gibbs is guarnteed pick 1 and Carlton believe he is one of the final pieces in our rebuilding phase, what will it take to get him

As good as those 4 KPPs are, i don't think they will make as great impact to Carlton a Gibbs would.

Just to tell you why he may be one of our final pieces of rebuilding. CONSIDER this midfield in 2-3 years. Gibbs, Russell, Walker, Blackwell, Stevens and Murphy. Could be one of the best. Match WCE and be as good as the LIONS of 2000-02.

THOUGHTS?

I doubt there would be a snowflakes chance in hell that Essendon would part with their no. 1 pick, should they have it.

I still think we're better off taking a KPP, preferably Hansen, should Essendon draft Gibbs, which I imagine is almost a sure thing. Just remember, a good KPP is harder to find than a good Midfielder.

Depending on what happens at the end of the year, this is what i'd be looking for:

1st Pick - KP Backman - Hansen
2nd Pick (PP) - Ruckman - Renouf
3rd Pick - Midfielder
4th Pick - Midfielder or best available

TRUE

But with thornton, whitnall, Bower, and Hartlett in defence

Kennedy, Fisher, Waite and Fevola in attack

I dont believe we need another KPP. but here is two theories

IF GIBBS IS TAKEN IF GIBBS IS NOT TAKEN

1st pick - Hansen Gibbs
2nd pick - Jetta/collard/benjamin Reid
3rd pick - Renouf Renouf
4th pick - Small midfielder Small midfielder

I do value ur opinion and either way we'll have a great mix of quality talent

I take your point John21, and it is a good one. I had the same conversation with the great Mojo31 before he retired from BF. He told that that Hansen was pure quality and we'd be mad not to take him, should he still be available. Mojo was almost certain that this kid would make it as a very good AFL player, whereas there is no guarantee both Hartlett and Bower will make it.

I'm also a little scared off Gibbs by him wanting to stay in SA. I just think after 2 years in the system, Adelaide will throw just about everything at him to get him back to Adelaide.

Have a look at the write up on Hansen and make up your own mind

I agree with HBF. First, i think Essendon giving up the #1 pick would pretty much be unprecedented in footy and probably cost sheeds any support he has left. I think the Ess fans will be pretty keen to see Gibbs in red and black.
Second, from what i have read (and looking forward to seeing next week) think Hansen is pretty much a lay-down misere to make it as a quality KPP in the AFL. He could hold down CHB for many years to come and maybe even pinch hit in the ruck if need be. Unfortunatelty Hartlett is injury prone, and to be honest i wouldn't be upset to see him pushed into a forward pocket as a third tall, with Kennedy and Fev (Fisher pushed further up into the midfield when fit). that forward line with some good smalls would give opposition defneses a big headache. Bower is still an unknown quantity at this stage, but think he might make it in the future taking the third opposition tall, and as other have said, using his dash to run off (more a McPhee style). So far (and this is pretty speculative a week before the champs) my wildest fantasies might be something like:

#2 - Hansen
#18 - Proud
#20 - Renouf
#36 - Petterd
Bit optimistic though :)

Don't forget Sam Sheldon as a father/son, word is that if he was not a father son, he could go top 10 also.

It is going to be an interesting draft for Carlton that could set us up for years. I can tell you one other thing, the Blues won't f**k up the premiership chances when they come in a couple of years by playing the kids to early and ruining them like our neighbours from Moorabin. Pagan will also make sure that we have the depth to cover injuries to ensure our next stay at the top is a long one.

As I have said before get on the train because the blue baggers are coming and we will be back in town before the rest of the comp know it :)
