and I am seeking the assistance of fellow posters.

The problem is I have been requested to provide the old RustBucket with a reference. Every time I put pen to paper the words just dry up. Writers block of sorts.

" RustyHawk is a............"

I just don't seem to be able to quite capture the right combination of language to accurately convey the sentiments which best sum up the man.

The central issue is whether he is a fit and proper person.

I really have been asked to provide him with a reference. So this is your opportunity to assist and to tell us what you really think od the RustBucket.

Hmmmm.......tricky, very tricky - I look forward to H2F's advice.:)

Although I have met Mr Hawk but once, and briefly at that, I feel qualified to recommend Rusty as a man of substance based on our extensive correspondence.

As far as I am aware, Rusty must of been recruited to the club in about 1979 and such was his passion, nobody had the heart to tell him he has since been delisted.

How else can his committment to making every possible training session be explained?

The club has tried every thing to make the hints subtle - changing the training times, changing the training venue, moving the club from Glenferrie Road to Waverley - but Rusty will not take no for an answer.

This either indicates a man who is a man of his bond or slight intellectual deficiency. I also believe he may be concerned that the club will fine him for not attending - hey, money's tight everywhere.

I have it on good authority that Clarko actually enquired about blowing the dust off the contract of the Rustbucket at around the time Thommo left. Such were the dire straights we were in, Clarko thought about propping him up at full forward.

However his 'Strauchnie' like behaviour once he got to training soon put paid to that. Rather than go into the rooms to warm up, his first port of call was to the coffee shop and then onto his mates of somewhat dubious character, Number 24 & flyby hawk.

He is an extensive note taker, has great football knowledge and a excellent communicator.

Based on this knowledge, I do not hesitate to recommend him in his pursuit as Senior Coach of the Carlton Football Club and I wish him well.

Cheers, TWITA.

Here it is:

"RustyHawk is a teetotaller, and I believe that his charge of being drunk in charge of a golf cart is both manifestly wrong and extremely out of character.

I ask the court to be lenient in the circumstances
"
