Shane Warne played a cameo before stumps, sending two to the boundary, one of them into the crowd.

Fifth Test: Australia vs England at Sydney

2 January 2007
Day 1 - Poms finally show something in lost series

England have shown their potential of 2 months ago, in a good display at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where they won the toss on a bowlers nightmare, with no help to them, and Mitchell Johnson found out the hard way, smashed for 102 off his 23 overs.

Ian Bell supplied a super knock in the middle order, while Trescothick supported him with a half-century also. Andrew Flintoff is making inroads to another half-century.

Stuart Clark was the only real positive from the Aussie camp.

Australia have strolled to stumps, looking certain to take the first innings lead after being 3 down for 210 overnight. Half centuries to Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting guided them to the position while Brad Hodge looks in good knick.

Glenn McGrath finished off England earlier on, taking the last four wickets, and five for the match.

4 January 2007
Day 3 - Monty comes of age against Aussies

English spinner Monty Panesar has once again put on a show, this time at the SCG taking 7 wickets. In what has been a poor series, despite a 5 wicket haul in Brisbane, his figures of 7-90 are his best in test cricket, and bamboozled the best side in the world.

England's middle order consisting of Trescothick and Bell once again looked solid on their way to setting a promising target.

Fifth Test: Australia vs England at Sydney

4 January 2007
Day 4 - Aussies make it a whitewash despite English fight

Australia have won The Ashes 5-0 after claiming victory on the fourth day with Phil Jaques (87) and Justin Langer (69) setting it up. In what was the most highly anticipated series of cricket in the history of the game, Australia regained The Ashes weeks back in Perth, but made it the worst winning every game, most not going into the last day.

It comes after England won The Ashes last year on their home soil, in the best cricket series ever, living up to its expectations. In a one-sided series this time around, it was as sweet as ever for Ponting and his men, and new coach Mikey Robinson.

The man of the series was a tough choice, but skipper Ricky Ponting won with two centuries and three half centuries to his name, as well as captaining the side to the 5-0 victory got him over the line before veteran bowlers Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, and opener Phil Jaques.

Twenty20 Int'l - Australia vs England at Brisbane

9 January 2007
Watson shows Poms all-round form

Dropped after a poor return to the test arena, Shane Watson has continued his great run in the shorter version of the game, putting in a fantastic man of the match, all-rounders performance in the Twenty20 International match at Brisbane.

Put into bat, Watson once again was used as the opening batsmen, and he and Adam Gilchrist put on a 135-run opening stand which threatened the English attack. Watson ended up making 79, while Gilchrist was gone for 60.

Watson would then take 3 wickets in England's innings, along with Mitchell Johnson, who made his international debut in the shortest version of the game. Australia ended up winning by 46 runs.

Cosgrove makes VB Series squad

Australia's 15 man squad for the VB Series against England and New Zealand has seen Michael Cosgrove take the 15th spot ahead of Matthew Hayden and Simon Katich. Cosgrove has played 3 ODI's, making his debut in the sub-continent, and has already scored a solid half-century and can be a handy all-rounder if required.

Phil Jaques was included as was Stuart Clark as some suprise selections, but no real shocks in the end.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (c), Adam Gilchrist (vc), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Michael Cosgrove, Brad Hogg, Mike Hussey, Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson

VB Series - Australia vs England at Brisbane

12 January 2007
England take first points over hosts

The VB Series has seen the first shock, with England beating Australia by 3 wickets in the opening match of the tournament in Brisbane. Andrew Flintoff guided his side to victory with a handy unbeaten half-century.

His perfect knock was a shadow of Marcus Trescothick who helped the start of England to chasing the modest total of 205 set by Australia. It was the spin of Monty Panesar and Ashley Giles who forced the poor start to the series. Mike Hussey came in mid-way through the innings and made an unbeaten 80, but it wasn't enough. Hussey's partnership with Brett Lee lasted 14 overs and 65 runs, with Lee making 12 of the runs.

VB Series - Australia vs New Zealand at Sydney

14 January 2007
Shane Watson puts his name in the books with massive hundred

Shane Watson has made an extraordinary hundred, equalling the highest score by an Australian, 173, set by Mark Waugh in 2001 against the West Indies. Watson, an all-rounder, has opened the batting recently for Australia in the short form of the game and has helped himself with impressive form with both bat and ball.

He and skipper Ricky Ponting set up the sides 5th highest ODI score, 357 for 4, as Ponting also made a hundred, caught behind on the exact figure. New Zealand's chase was quick, but pointless as Australia's Nathan Bracken ripped through the side, taking a career best 6-68, while McGrath took 3 himself.

VB Series - Australia vs New Zealand at Perth

18 January 2007
Australia win close one with Roy back in touch

Out of form and under pressure, Andrew Symonds stepped back onto the WACA Ground and put in a superb performance to help guide Australia to a winning total. After Shane Watson once again dominated the early power plays against the Black Caps, Symonds produced a patient, but fantastic unbeaten half-century. Symonds has hardly been used as an all-rounder, despite taking wickets off limited overs in the Australian summer. He once again bowled a few overs, and claimed a economical 1-13.

Chris Harris and Nathan Astle put in hard yards in the chase, as did Jacob Oram, but it wasn't enough as Brad Hogg cleaned up the tail and Nathan Bracken helped remove the middle order. Mitchell Johnson was once again inconsistent, but produced a wicket with the first ball as McGrath was rested.

Australia: S Watson, +A Gilchrist, *R Ponting, M Cosgrove, A Symonds, M Hussey, M Clarke, N Bracken, B Lee, S Clark, M Johnson

Toss: Australia
Result: Australia win by 22 runs

VB Series - Australia vs England at Adelaide

20 January 2007
420 FOR 4; AUSTRALIA WALK ALL OVER POMS

When Andrew Flintoff won the toss and put Australia in to bat, there was one thing on his mind...was it the right decision? Well, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Watson slogged 98 off the first 10 overs, so you take a guess. The out of form keeper was struggling with the bat, but produced the Gilchrist innings, a blinder. He bought up his century off only 72 balls and would be dismissed shortly after. Watson earlier departed for 50, his fourth consecutive score of 50 of more.

Ponting and Hussey then completed innings in the eighties with Hussey having another not out to his name, making his average look more and more like a Don Bradman's, except at another level. Mitchell Johnson claimed 6 wickets after a Trescothick onslaught, while Stuart Clark was a little more economical taking 4.

VB Series - Australia vs New Zealand at Melbourne

24 January 2007
Watson and Gilchrist take Aussies close to 400 again!

390 for 3, only days after recording the fourth highest ODI score of 420 for 4...Australia are on fire in the VB Series. It is their fourth score in the six games where they have scored 300 or more, a tough task. Adam Gilchrist scored back to back hundreds, and this innings was better than last week, scoring 156 off only 134 balls while Shane Watson is invincible at the top order, claiming his second hundred for the series, 103 off 87 balls. Ricky Ponting added another half century too.

The chase was too much for New Zealand, with Johnson and McGrath taking 3 scalps each.

VB Series 1st Final - Australia vs New Zealand at Melbourne

28 January 2007
Aussies go one up in last over contest

It came up to the last over at Melbourne in the first final of the VB Series, where New Zealand set a good total for the hosts to chase, with Jacob Oram putting in a man of the match performance, scoring 103 not out, while fellow Black Cap Chris Harris made a solid effort, falling short of three figures on 94. Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee were a force, with Lee returning to the side, taking four wickets along with his young shadow.

Australia made a usual aggressive start, but wickets fell as no players went on from mid range scores. Hogg and Clarke rescued the side, needing still aggressive minds, and with limited batting out in the middle in the series, their form was still top notch with the willow, winning in the last over.

Skipper Ricky Ponting has overtaken a equal record set by Shane Watson and Mark Waugh as the highest individual score set by an Australian in an ODI, making a remarkable 183 not out against New Zealand as his side cruised to the VB Series victory and a score of 399, another massive total by the greatest team going round.

Ponting hit 22 fours and 1 six in his unbeaten 183 off only 130 balls! A huge innings from the greatest batsmen since Bradman. We won't stop there though. Adam Gilchrist managed his third hundred in four innings, being 151 off 122 balls and was as good as his other recent innings in the last week.

2 February 2007
Warne announces ODI return in World Cup

Australian spin legend Shane Warne has announced today that he will return to the ODI scene for a fitting farewell in the Carribean for the 2007 World Cup. With the squad to be announced in 48 hours time, he has made a tough call to the selectors, but will be included.

Warne is still in limbo with his cricket career, with Richie Benaud saying he can go to aged 40, Warne, who is 37, has had some back trouble and may not play a test match again. He is still 50-50 on the issue of continuing his cricket career.

Warne played his last ODI back in 2003 in the VB Series, but was having an ODI farewell tour in South Africa, but a shock drug scandel saw him banned for 12 months. He missed the World Cup in 2003, and never returned back to the shorter version of the game.

Australia select World Cup squad for Caribbean

With Warne included, their hasn't been any real suprises in the World Cup squad, consisting of 18 members. After a successful Champions Trophy in India and smashing New Zealand and England in the VB Series, the Australians go in as favourites.

The most inexperienced members, Brad Hodge, Mark Cosgrove and Mitchell Johnson have all been in good touch leading up to the biggest series on the ODI calendar.

Three Day Friendly - Guyana vs Australia at Kingston, Jamiaca

9-11 February 2007
Cosgrove puts his name on selectors mind

Mark Cosgrove has always been on the selectors mind, but with the absence of Justin Langer, who has been left out of the West Indies tour after suffering a broken arm in the Pura Cup for Western Australia. Cosgrove put in an excellent innings of 100 not out before Ponting declared in their first innings, and Cosgrove's runs came at a strike of more than 60. Phil Jaques was the man of the moment also, making a sensational knock of 164.

The key was that everyone got experience out in the middle in a half-A team facing the locals on expected Carribean wickets. When bowling, Mitchell Johnson continued his awesome form at international level, after playing all 5 tests in The Ashes, and had an excellent VB Series. He took 6-71 in the first innings in which Guyana struggled. A good knock from skipper Shiv Chanderpaul helped settle a draw in the second innings, where Brett Lee was as lethal as ever as the no.1 strike bowler, and Stuart Clark provided 4 wickets.

Watson in as fourth seamer as Clarke bats 4

Michael Clarke has been granted a spot as the no.4 batsmen, replacing Brad Hodge as selectors wanted to play Shane Watson. Watson, who has had a bad run at test level despite first-class level brilliance has been put into the first test side before the inform Hodge after a great summer in the shorter version of the game, and the ability to help the bowlers out as a fifth man.

Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Mike Hussey will all play after being rested for the friendly last week against Guyana, while Matthew Hayden comes back in after a good knock in the practice game and the absence of Justin Langer gives him a spot.
