Further more, J Hay played 20 games in 2005, for just 71 kicks.
He ranked 24th at HFC for kicks.

Brad Sewell, who is a run with player and has played just 18 career games, 12 this year, had 76 kicks.

Hay ranked 17th for overall posessions in 2005 which was supposedly one of his better years.

Yep, that was the recruiting coup of the century Kangas.

Mick Martyn in his prime had similar stats. It's not the possessions he gets it's the goals his opponent gets that matter. Give me those stats.

His opponents get goals, dont worry about that. Plenty of goals :D

You are paying him.Maybe not all but you are still paying.

by the way that was a good deal Hay wasn't Thompson cost to much as well.
he had a very avg year it's been over hyped getting Hay shows how much Laidly is kidding him self,he is setting the club up for a trouble.

DID you see any North games this year????

Thommo was 5th in our B&F in a team that finished 5th on the ladder.

Every game that Rawlings/Hay play is one less game that Perry/Chad Jones/Macintosh get to play. The less opportunities they get, the more likelihood they will seek opportunities elsewhere in future seasons.

Perry - Yes. Good Point

Chad Jones and Macintosh - NO. Completely different positions unless Rawlings is put up forward again (or in the ruck) which i doubt.... I actually don't think Rwalings will play a lot of footy.

cant say I hate North as a team but certainly leading to disliking the supporters, get some perspective - when you were playing Hawthorn in the last 3 years did you ever feel concerned that our full back would tear the game apart and squash your forward - NO.

Good luck with Hay, you have all overated thompsons performances this year so perhaps Hay will get the same generous attitude from you lot.

How many games did you win this year by the skin of your teeth? 3 or 4 I think wasnt it? We'll see if the luck falls your way again next year - unlikely. It will be a shame if you really hit rock bottom as soon as next year, may take two years but when it happens I expect it to be far more damaging to your club than it has been to ours, and its been pretty bloody horrendous whats happened to us.

Talk about supporters needing perspective........

Not many supporters at North are over rating Hay (perhaps the recruiting staff are, but i think the supporters are just being welcoming and watchful).

Most supporters say that we needed a full back and that Hay at least fits the Bill. Only time will tell if he does any good.

It does however appear that a lot of Hawks supporters are very keen to have a shot at a bloke who they defended for a number of years. This i don't understand, particularly if the story is true about Hay wanting to stay and the Hawks player mgt team shopping him around.

Anyway, it looks like the Hawks will be quite srong in a few years, so best you focus on that and let us Roos supporters worry about our own teams performance.

please correct me if im wrong but, during hawthorns golden run during the 80's weren't players made to earn a spot in the side by playing plenty of reserves football to make sure they were ready??

certainly changed that thinking around these days, yes having plenty of draft early draft picks should go hand in hand with having a brilliant team down the track, but is it only me that is getting an awful stench of the freo's about hawthorn?? supposedly hugely talented list but no senior leaders to show the kids the way

st.kilda traded in for blokes like, hamill, had harveys, burkes, loewes around to help the kids, got rid of the trouble makers, ie everitt

who are hawthorns leaders??? who will develop these talented kids into champion footballers??

nth have gone down a different road recognising weaknesses in their structure and trying to fix it, whilst still having developing youngsters on the list but also having leaders like archer, simpson, harvey, et al

essendon, have hird, lloyd, fletcher et al
pies have bucks, burns, licka, clement, wakelin
even carlton have kouta, stevens, whitnall

settle down hawks

Just re the above post. Everyone gets carried away with Hawthorn's full youth policy. There's some experience that'll be on the field too, Everitt, Lekkas, Crawford, Smith, Barker, Dixon etc. What's different to last year? We lost Hay who was barely on the paddock and a kid in Lonie. Those two will not suddenly make us a generaless team. Don't forgot. Support comes from two directions, i.e, on the field leadership and off it. Do you think we should have done like North did and recruited mature aged players? North are there abouts and would be aiming for top 4 next year. Hawthorn are not thereabouts and had we recruited like North hypothetically may finish a couple of spots higher than where we would while continuing a youth policy.

On your board they have been saying he played 20 games in his first consitent season since his run of injuries.

I do agree with you on the experience side of things.

The HAwks still have more than enough to help guide the youngsters. Plus a good panel of assistant coaches,.

I can't remember reading so much cr@p for a long time. Most of this stuff written has made me laugh, some has made me cringe and a bit of it has nearly made me want to cry. Here are some facts that everyone should consider:

1. Everyone thinks what their club does is correct (eg, Hawthorn supporters think rebuilding is the only way to go).

2. Whether Hay or Rawlings play well in the next few years or not, no one knows.

3. How North or any other team go next year, no one knows.

4. Not all first round draft picks turn out to be champions, a lot of them hardly play senior football at all.

5. The Sydney supporter who was handing out advice on trading, well done on getting Chambers and Richards and leaving yourself with a couple of 9th round draft picks.

6. The drafting of Rawlings is a very low risk gamble. In fact we moved up 3 spots in the draft to get him, so we're already in front with that.

7. Thompson and Hay aren't Hawthorn rejects. From what I can remember they wanted to leave Hawthorn.

8. North does have a lot of good kids coming through. In the years 2000-2003 we drafted a heap of good young talent and they have slowly got some games under their belts.

9. North was in desperate need of an experienced full back and we got one in Hay.

10. For all the talk of us trading away all our early picks for nothing, consider this. We picked up Hay, Rawlings, Powell and McConnell for Motlop (who wanted out) and 1 first round pick. That's all. In fact we actually moved up one spot in the second round of the draft (29 to 28) and recieved an extra 3rd round pick.

North are an immensely proud club who dislike finishing anywhere near the bottom of the ladder. We have very rarely had high draft picks but have done reasonably well with what we had. We have always tried as best we can to recruit needed players to the club and most of these have worked out well. Every single team has recycled players over the years and every single team has had successes and failures with these players.

So have a go at North if you like, we are obviously an easy target.

cracker point FLUKY LUKE, kangas can continue 2 buy other teams discards and it will hurt them in the long-term. LONG- TERM SUCCESS FOR THE ROOS IN VERY MINIMAL.

We haven't had to wait 72 years unlike some...

Your team proves that it doesn't take such a great team to win a premiership.
