If we dont trade Ottens, he will sign a new deal. He wont go into PSD to disadvantage us surely. If he goes into the draft and we have said we will redraft him he may as well sigh with us on the amount he will nominate allowing us to pick up another player with pick one.

Geelong is partly to blame for this mess. They've obviously been in Brad's ear telling him how much they want him but they don't want to pay us a fair price to get him.

At least when Richmond traded for Nathan Brown last year we paid the Dogs a fair price.

Do they think that we will let him go for nothing If they have managed to get Ottens to commit to them Geelong should be prepared to commit to him. The Cats should be acting in good faith and do what it takes to get him (like we did with Brown), otherwise when they approach players in the future the players concerned will realise that they can't trust them to keep their part of the bargain...

After all, a fit and firing Brad Ottens would give Geelong a real chance at a Premiership, so whatever price they pay he should be worth it!!

You have to remember this time last year people would have tipped of the three possible contenders one being Port, one being Bris and the other being Collingwood. Stevens to Coll would have strengthened Collingwood significantly so I can see why the Power wouldnt trade him. I believe Collingwood offer their first two picks which who have been like 18 and 34 (from memory).

Richmond and Geelong are not in the same position and Geelong are willing to give two first round picks and their second pick for Ottens. Alot more than Collingwood offered Port. Richmond do not have to fear that strengthening Geelong will cost them a flag like Port would have this time last year.

Is this years draft that limited with player talent that those players picked up after pick 6 are not worth it?

Or has this turned into a pride thing now because Hawthorn got pick 10 & 26 for Thompson?

I really hope not because that kind of thinking is not going to place Richmond on the front foot in the rebuilding process. I thought Greg Miller was a gun but now I'm starting to slowly have my doubts about him.

it comes down to who blinks 1st If Geelong Blink 1st we will end up with #7 + 16 and the pies get a decent player.
If we blink we will end up with #16 +#32 plus Enright + Gardiner.
and if neither club blinks Ottens will end up at Hawthorn for nothing.
Steve Johnson is apparently the pies are after.Now Thompson you said you dont want to break up your Midfeild group.Last time i checked Johnson is a HF.

Did Brown commit to the doggies twice, before contract negotiations didn't go his way hence asking to leave? Brown always wanted to leave the doggies, it wasn't so much about the money with him. And as others have said, we paid a fair price for Brown, he wanted to come to Richmond so we did what it took to get it done. Geelong just aren't willing to do that right now.

The difference is that the Tigers had something to trade that was of value to the Doggies.

Geelong do not.

The Tigers traded for a fair price and got a very good footballer who was probably the only standout in a year of hell.

Geelong seem to be only interested in screwing as much out of the deal as they can and ottens is in on it. (though to be honest Richmond are not squeaky clean with Freo over Simmonds)

I hope Richmond do the competition a favour and don't get forced into a rip off deal - even if it means Ottens goes into the PSD. At least you will get simmonds for free and it will show the players, the other clubs and the AFL world in general that, like Nick Stevens & Collingwood last year that even if you hold a few aces - you don't own the whole pack.
