Senior List
I went down to training today and did the good deed of making sure my mate signed up for a membership then we both had a bit of a splurge in the Carlton shop, buying new jumpers and polo so it was good to do that. It honestly felt like Christmas, as if we where down there doing our last minute Christmas shopping before the season starts hehe. But when we got down to business and watched the boys train I was extremely impressed.
I hadn’t been down to a session since late November because I was over in America during the summer but the difference in all the boys is great. I was really impressed with what I saw today especially from Murphy. He is actually going to gun it this year, he was so smooth and silky in a drill which involved a match situation where you had to get the ball the length of about 20 meters with only handballs and in all the traffic Murphy and also Armfeild where just dominating also in that game Joey Anderson was tackling like a man possessed. (Judd sat out this drill he doesn’t seem to be getting involved in physical contact but he is doing everything else).
After that drill rats separated the team into forwards with backs and mids with mids. Every player had an opponent and they were all stranding in different areas of the ground. The forwards/ backs where in the forward 50 and the mids outside the arc, then the mids would work on the delivery to the forwards with no specific target they needed to hit they, just looked for the best option and made the kick. I thought this was a great drill causing us to be more damaging with our delivery.
The rest of the day was just running, stretching and tackling bags which was good to watch to see the intensity the boys where displaying (Carrazzo was going flat out and he looks tremendous biggest legs at the club!). heath Scotland spent a lot of time one on one with a trainer just doing agility test after agility test after agility test which he seemed to be quiet good at. They finished with a match style length to length game however no goal kicking was required and not much tackling intensity was needed. Judd participated in this and was able to show why he is so good, he was picking the ball up on the half volley luck a vacuum cleaner and dishing them off with precision.
The injury group was just Ackland who spent the whole day kicking with Craig Bradley, Bentik who was running the house down and Benjamin. Tex walker is also back from injury and trained with the main group. A quick look up into the bay 4 and I saw Parkin, sticks and Greg swan chilling back and having a chat which was a great site to see.
