You didn't watch any Sydney games if you think it's exaggerated. Was so bad it genuinely made me uncomfortable watching it. Almost turned me off football for a while.

was referring to the fact they said it went on for 3 years. I hd this notion documentaries were supposed to be correct

People: The world has turned into this over sensitive PC nanny state where we can't say or do anything without offending someone.

Correct

Same people: That guy threw an imaginary spear, I am f&#cking outraged and wont sleep until he has been booed out of the game.

I thought it was the Goodes team that made a movie about it cos they r still so outraged years later!

He was booed for 3 years. It certainly got much worse in 2015, but it was happening before then...

You are aware your personal recollection isn't indisputable fact, yeah?

If the documentaries back up the claim of excessive booing for three years ill pull my head in.

Im thinking it will be over emotional claptrap (but ill keep an open mind)

I have heard or read ‘loud and definite booing every posession, went on for three years’. Seems not even you thought that
The film doesn’t say that and journalists who report that are being lazy.

What the film shows it occurring at games during 2014, though it doesn’t make it clear when it started.

The 2013 Pies game was round 9. He injured his knee in the third game after that one and missed the rest of the season.

This is when Hawthorn fans started booing him (2013):

And then they kept doing it everytime we played including some vile shit in the grand final

and even when people labelled it racist they kept doing it

And then they kept doing it everytime we played including some vile **** in the grand final

and even when people labelled it racist they kept doing it

In that grand final he got away with a blatant shove of Brian Lake for a goal in the second quarter and then also got away (in fact got a free kick) for clobbering Liam Shiels. And we also hadn’t forgiven him for the Gibson slide tackle.

He was always a dirty player and we hated him for it.

So when we were labelled by Caro as racists for booing him, yeah we ramped it up. It had nothing to do with his race, he was just a dog.

In the same way opposition fans booed Hodge and Mitch for their view of some of their acts being dirty.

F*ck everybody who played a role in pushing one of the biggest lies ever perpetuated in the history of the AFL.

Leaving the Sydney instigated 'Boo a Roo' campaign aside, the same Sydney (some sanctimonious) fans who were outraged at the booing of Goodes would routinely boo and hurl abuse at Lindsay Thomas in the same match.

LT received booing, disproportionate criticism and scrutiny until he was run out of the game.

For the record. I've never boo'd at the footy.

Yeah the double standards are hilarious. Take the Betts/Stack 'Kiya' or whatever they wanna call it. If that was the Selwood brothers, or the Riewoldt cousins and they did that, there would have been a negative media circus over it. Whatever you do, do touch the other lads though because its culture..... Piss off. Goodes didn't deserve everything he got (Eddie's idiotic on air comment and some booing) but he deserved some of it too, he was a sneaky campaigner and an amazing footballer.

Yeah, Lindsay Thomas got booed more than Goodes ever did. Good point above.

For what it’s worth, Eddie is a dickhead for his ape comments and that Collingwood girl wasn’t being taught right at home.

Howard Cosell in the US left his job as a sportscaster after a furore erupted when it was reported he said about a black player "look at that little monkey run". The fact that he called his grandchildren by that term and tape resurfaced of him referring to many white players the same way didn't save him from the controversy. When a smaller physical stature NFL football player would run and dart around after getting his hands on the ball, Cosell would sometimes say "Look at that little monkey run!" It didn't matter if it was a white or black player.

He wasn't a racist. He was the acknowledged champion of Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Tommie Smith, and John Carlos, as well as dozens of black civil-rights activists who spoke up for him.

Cosell was one of the first sportscasters to refer to the boxer as Muhammad Ali after he changed his name, and supported him when he refused to be inducted into the military. Cosell was also an outspoken supporter of Olympic sprinters John Carlos and Tommie Smith, after they raised their fists in a "black power" salute during their 1968 medal ceremony in Mexico City.

....

Cosell earned his greatest interest from the public when he backed Ali after the boxer's championship title was stripped from him for refusing military service during the Vietnam War. Cosell found vindication several years later when he was able to inform Ali that the United States Supreme Court had unanimously ruled in favor of Ali in Clay v. United States.

First time Goodes was booed en masse. Appears to have had nothing to do with race and everything to do with Essendon supporters wanting to put him off an after the siren shot for goal to win a game for the Swans in Round 20, 2011. Tactic worked, and many took note.

That would be up to the person booing i suppose. Though as i said a lot of people i think were booing because the people near them were booing.

No doubt there was a mob-mentality involved. I think this is one of the things I found most disturbing. How this 'hate' just took off.

Personally - I don't think he was booed because he was an indigenous person - he was booed because he was an outspoken, 'lippy' indigenous person.

....and you know - we can't have that - must be kept in their place !!

You're saying Goodes should never have played football??

The AFL attempts to paint anyone who booed as a racist & continuing to want to prosecute that line is the cause on ongoing angst.
RA have mishandled the Folau issue & the AFL can paint themselves into a corner over Goodes - my take is ordinary people are sick of being told when to so, what to say, what to think by virtue signallers.
