Given that we are going to be the stewards of an Indigenous Development Academy it stands to reason that we would attempt to recruit at least one Indigenous player in this draft. My tip is Casey Sibosado at 26 regardless of who we take first pick,

The problem is he wont be there at 58 IMO. He would provide the extra Tall (ish) Forward we are looking for this draft. He has freaky skills and is a bit of a character to boot.

Maybe he wont be there at 58, but I think he's far to much of a speculative pick to grab at 26 when there is likely to be a better player available.

Emma Quayle has him rated inside her top 25. Thinks he is every chance to be taken in the second round because of the potential the kid has, however she says he could also end up as a complete bust.

Well yeah he's got immense raw talent, but the latter is why he wont be chosen in that range, he's too much of a risk to be a complete flop.

If Walters is there at 26, we should snaffle him. Doubt he'll be there all the same.

So, having involvement in the Academy and furthering it's aims is racist:confused: I think you should rethink that statement and the attempt to derail this thread.

Involvement in the academy and furthering it's aims is a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Picking a player who is less able, merely because of his skin colour in order to meet some abstract notion is racist.

Where did I say we would be picking a player purely on the basis of his skin colour??? The boy would have to be in the mix of players deserving of the pick we would be using. For mine Casey Sibosado is that boy at 26. Emma Quayle also thinks he may be a 'bolter'. Tell me do you really believe that the RFC will not import an indigenous player on to our list through the upcoming drafts given their involvement in the Academy?

Late edit:

Emma has spoken thus

25. Casey Sibosado
(Xavier College/ Oakleigh Chargers, 192cm, 72kg)
Here’s my smokey. I can’t see anyone picking Sibosado this high, but once he turns out to be a star I want to be able to say “I told you so”. (note: If he doesn’t work out let’s pretend this article never happened!). Casey has talent, pure and simple — he gets the ball when he shouldn’t, has a knack for nudging players in the back with his chest and getting his arms up to mark, he times his leaps really well and can play down back and go for a run, although I like him as a forward most. The trick for him is forcing his own involvement in a game. But once he’s in it, he can do anything. If he makes it, he’ll be hugely exciting to watch.

best avaliable player to suit our needs if that happens to be indigenous player so be it if not i don't want richmond throwing away a pick for a idealistic notion.

TBH I hope we go tall with both 8 and 26! Two big talls down forward. If we got Vickery he could play ruck then rest up forward while someone like Lewis Johnston/Mitch Brown/Jordan Lisle is in the forward bagging goals.

Your OP, where it said we recruit an indigenous player because of the academy.

I'm certainly not going to deny that there will be indigenous players available at our picks, and that some of these players should come into consideration. I'm just saying that the colour of the skin and racial heritage should not be a factor considered when making our picks.
