Injury concerns?

We all know we have a couple minor injury concerns to our key players, but does anyone actually think any are very serious?

Riewoldt should be fine with concussion, and Sam Fisher has the swore toe which you would think wouldn't miss much else as well as Dal Santo with the general illness. But I really don't like the sounds of Goddard and his knee, I'm praying it's not a relapse.

Does anyone know anything about our injuries? I'm praying all are 100% fit and ready for finals.

Injury list as of Friday August 6th, 2009:

Sam Fisher - Soreness, to be assessed
Sam Gilbert - Back soreness, to be assessed
Brendon Goddard - Knee, to be assessed
Steven Baker - Knee, to be assessed
Lenny Hayes - Back, to be assessed
Matt Maguire - Hamstring strain, to be assessed
Leigh Montagna - Elbow, to be assessed
Nick Riewoldt - Concussion, 1 week
Jarryd Allen - Torn hip muscle, indefinite
Xavier Clarke - ACL, indefinite

IMO

Roo, Montagna, Dal, Fisher, Gilbo

Hayes and Goddard to miss another.

Dunno if Baker will get his spot back.

BJ is my main concern.

Hutchy on the footy Show did point out there is talk that the Goddard knee could be a little bit more serious. Only a rumour at this stage of course.

There is no way all 8 best 22 players will resume this week. Hardly going to make 8 changes after that effort! I think the win will actually lead to some blokes having another week off. I think Dal, Roo, Lenny will all play.

Correct me If I'm wrong , but I think Dal has never before missed a game due to injury or illness, and I therefore would consider it an amazing co-incidence that he succumbed to illness in the exact same week all those others were out.

Did anyone see him at the game, I suspect he was chained up in the rooms to stop him running out.

Dal had a serious quad injury in 2003, and didn't play that year until Round 15. Then he didn't miss a game until being dropped last year.

He apparently didnt even fly over. Was booked on seperate flight on Saturday morning but didnt catch it. I agree it was to much of co-incidence that they all were "injured/sick" in the one week. But hey we got the win without them playing so its looking like it might of been a masterstroke of genius

i read dal was a personal reason on friday rather than an injury thus explaining why he didn't fly (kinda)

I'm not questioning the wisdom of the move. I just don't like the fact that they can't come out and say the players are being rested but instead they make up lies.

( Or maybe its not lies , just bullshit ).:D

Elwood: Oh no.

Jake: What the _uck was that?

Elwood: The motor (Saints team). We've thrown a rod (game).

Jake: Is that serious?

Elwood: Yup.

so give it to me straight...chances of Montagna comin back this week? Less than 50/50?
Well, there's a chance he'll come back.

And a chance he won't.

So probably 50/50

my only concern is Gilbert, seems a long time. We will struggle without him at cruch time.

i saw him after his last game against the dogs the following morning having coffee with friends and he looked like he was pretty damn happy. I reckon he missed sydney with a sore back and they decided to leave him in melbourne with the other boys for the sake of giving him the extra week's rest. No concern there for mine.

BJ was probably BOG in Sydney and moved freely all game. He has played every game till round 19 i think so you would say its swelling or general soreness in his knee. Give him another 2 weeks off to get him right rather then risk him if thats the case. I think we would have heard more about it by now if it were serious rather then a 10 second snippet from Hutchy at 11:00pm at night.

I think you will find it's more of a case of resting these guys and freshening up there legs for finals. We are in a position of luxury where we can afford to rest sore bodies while the other top 8 clubs are not. Aside from Geelong who genuinely have serious injury concerns leading into finals. If we go into the finals alot fresher then the other 7 sides and win the first final, we get the added bonus of a week off before playing in a pre-lim while the other teams smash and crash into each other.:thumbsu:

Does anyone think the reason for our marquee players being out last week has to do with maybe an increase in training schedules leading up to the finals?

Fair enough if they're injured, but my impression is that it is all about conservation rather than injury management with at least a few of them.

I know that many clubs increase their physical workload at training in preparation for finals around this time of year, and maybe the better players in the team are out to rest and preparing their bodies for finals.

You hear about sides of the past doing this, I was just wondering if anyone can confirm whether Ross Lyon/ St Kilda believe in this tactic of pushing players before finals?

Just saw on 10 news that everyone trained today and all 8 guys are ready for a return. Good news

... sounds like a perfect storm ...

How about we get some double sized jumpers & fit 2 blokes in them - ala the old 3 legged race approach?

ok, who are we going pair up?

Milney & Kosi - the pack bursting goal sneak, etc ...

Perfect storm, I hate that phrase!

Great news though, I guess it is a balance of touch vs freshness. I would hate to be Melbourne as there will be a few very very hard blokes going in full tilt to try and keep their places.

Essendon you mean. If there young players were not sore enough after a long year, lol.

What will the odds be in round 22 against the demons?.........Considering they don't want to win (tanking), they have about 26 fit players to choose from and they are stone motherless last on the ladder with just 3 wins next to their name in contrast to St kilda who are undefeated and looking to run into good form the week before finals.

Saints $1.01 ----- Demons $15:D

nah, i meant the dees. any redundant players who are going to be dropped for the finals will be furious! I dont think everyone will be back for the dees clash.

Actually if the Dees are still on 3 wins, I'm sure they would go as hard as they could...

If they beat the Dockers though, they'll tank like nothing seen before (Cartlon 07).

Not that they need to of course. At their best we're still 6 goals better playing shit.
