Thompson confirmed Ottens is suffering from plantar fasciitis, a painful inflammatory condition on the underside of the heel.

Thompson said the club was unable to give a time frame for his return but remained hopeful it wasn't far away.

"It's not improving, it hasn't healed. But he is getting close now, we're just waiting for him to be able to improve where we can actually say he is going to play again - it is not far away - I think he ran a little distance and once he starts running he will be OK," he said.

He expects Mackie (quad) to be back for next week's match against Sydney.

I was quite surprised by this, the diagnosis of plantar fasciitis. All along they've been pointing to the actual ankle joint, to now state it is on the underneath of the heel.

I've seen some injuries like this go on forever, however seen some which aren't so long. I hope Otto is the latter.

At least his ankle isn't broken, that is a relief.

Hey cats, thought it may be a good idea to poll a view on saints v cats match this weekend to get some accountability to the rivarly we have as clubs.

I hope this is not seen as a troll and i did not want to start a thread specifically on your board. So please vote:

any word on whether Gamble will be right to go for this weekend?

Tom Lonergan, Ryan Gamble and Brent Prismall are in line for a game this weekend, Thompson said.

Seems to suggest he's over his injury.
Can't see why he wouldn't come back in for Byrnes.
Hope he does...

You can count Lonergan out.

TOM Lonergan's bid for a recall to Geelong's senior line-up has suffered a minor setback, with the club confirming the key forward has had surgery on an infected finger.
Lonergan had the operation after kicking five goals in Geelong's VFL win over Werribee on Sunday to again thrust his name in front of senior coach Mark Thompson and the Cats selectors.
Geelong football manager Neil Balme confirmed Lonergan had undergone a minor procedure, but hoped the 23-year-old would fit to play in the VFL against Tasmania this weekend.
"He had a bit of a finger problem but we don't think it will stop him from playing this week,'' Balme told gfc.com.au
"We're not quite sure what happened to it. He had a touch of surgery just to get rid of an infection, I think he hurt it the week before, but they're pretty hopeful that he won't miss (a game).
"We'll just have to see how he goes at training.''
It's believed that he suffered the injury during Geelong's round one match against Coburg.
Lonergan was among the best in the Cats' nine-goal win over Werribee to strengthen his case for a senior call-up after some promising performances over the pre-season to build on his seven-game AFL career.
He was upgraded from Geelong's rookie list to the senior list this season after his best-on-ground performance in last year's VFL grand final.

Poor guy can't take a trick. :( At least he mightn't miss much game time, which is a plus I guess.

He might not miss any games. Also he wouldn't be considered for a senior gig this week unless a KPP was out injured.
