Inside Footy draft report

Just to let you know we were given an A+ (the highest rating) by Inside Footy magazine with regard to our drafting. Essendon and Richmond were next best with A's.

Well we did get the best key position player (Hawkins) and the second best midfielder (Selwood). Not too bad. Djerkurra was a good one as well.

It will be interesting to compare Selwood with Gibbs as well as Hawkins with Gumbleton/Hansen over their careers... this draft will hopefully be remembered as one of the best, if not the best for the cats. Can't wait to see what Djerrkura's like; exciting prospect... and Hogan down the road sometime.

We were probably rated so highly because we got exactly what we needed out of the draft: A damaging tall forward now that Kingsleys gone (not that he was all that damaging), skillful mid that can rack up clearances consistently and two pacey players with good disposal.

Very excited about the next wave of youngsters!:D

Agree. It looks like our best draft result for years. Hope we'll see at least three of them get a run in the preseason comp. Hogan looks like he'll need a year or two to build up.

I'm very optimistic about Hawkins. If he performs well preseason I'd give him the chance at FF in R1 (and probably a few more as well). Big blokes like Lockett and Wade started young and did OK. If Nathan also looks the goods at CHF I'll be in seventh heaven.

And if other young blokes like Stokes, Prismall, Gamble, Djerrkura and Selwood show plenty they should also get more than the odd gig in the firsts. We'll certainly be able to work some good rotations through the midfield with Gazza, Bartel and Chappy in the mix. We might even look fast again! Anything good from Byrnes, Tenace, Kelly & Varcoe will be a bonus.

We won't see anything good from him, I just don't think he has the ability

That article on Tom is absolutely sensational. One of the best football articles I've read in ages. Actually there were 3 articles that were either about Tom or mentioned Tom in it. Was very interesting to read about how he found out about getting the captaincy too.

Text message, or did he read it in the Addy?

He was actually going around to pick Steven King up to go to the VFL grand final. Got a phone call from Brian Cook saying he had the captaincy if he wanted it, which he said he did. Got to King's place and as King was getting out to the car, his phone rang, and it was Cooky telling King that Harley was his replacement, so after he hung up he got in the car and congratulated Harley.
