What????????? I'm in awe. I'm flummoxed. I don't understand. My head is going to explode. I'm yelling right now as I type this. Not in anger, in astonishment.

I'd hate to see a Knight caricature of me whilst watching football.

How do you not do it?

This is a gif of me at the footy.

Haha. You're on fire in this thread.

Lots of hot potato issues here, and i have my own strong opinions. However, my experience is that very few minds will change and this is a footy board first and foremost

I was going along more the lines of ignorant as confirmed by your own words "didn't sufficiently think"...

"I do have a problem with the Jews arrogant and cruel treatment of the Palestinian people with whom they share a country";

When you isolate one worldwide religion and blame them for actions committed by governments, politicians and armies how should people interpret your own words?

EDIT: Also, Shanah Tova! to all of our Jewish posters out there!

I agree that TGGs word choice was unusally clumsy for the most eloquent writer on our board; however, considering recent law changes in Israel, they seem understandable to me and would probably be viewed very favourably by Israel.

I personally don't think that the backlash against political correctness is about the views being expressed. It's the righteous dismissal of alternate views and the assumption of negative intent, with a smug undertone of superiority, that is causing the backlash. Politics has gone full circle. The right has become the anti-establishment vote and the left has become the righteous non-questioners who dismiss and denigrate. As a life long leftist, it pains me to watch my mob.

Censorship, free speech, modern-day etiquette, sexism, racism, poststructuralism...now we're onto Palestine-Israel. If we're tossing this stuff around in the middle of a finals series, I can hardly imagine our agenda once the season is done and dusted!
I just new that as soon as Freeman retired a shit show thread like this one would pop up on the main board. Someone needs to rookie him asap.

You have nailed the thing that really bugs me.

Left or right? Don’t actually care.
The smug undertone of superiority, now that is a big bear.

The irony is that a tone superiority is routinely being used to promote the cause of equality.

Too much nervous energy and busy looking at positioning, tactics, interchange, forward of the ball if we have it etc etc.

The ONLY time I get upset or jump up is at a very, very poor umpiring decision (not 50/50) and then it is: "What? You gotta be kidding. Idiot!!!!"

Now getting back to the Knight cartoon and not blonde hair...:p

Agree!

My guess is the granddaughter keeps her in check.
Actually I have to keep her in check. Sadly not sitting with me tomorrow, going with her mum and brother. Fair weather supporters.
She is not happy, I spend more on her than her mum does, we lunch somewhere first.

Kids are really funny how much they take in, I think she most likely knows as much as I do about this team, maybe more as looks up stats and can reel them off.

I finally get the issue with the cartoon. For a long while, I just saw the dummy spit, the abusive blaming of the umpire and thought it was about me watching the footy.

It’s wonderful.

Love going to footy with my nephew and neice. Go Pies.

And, by way of balance, I would like to wish a slightly belated 'Happy Islamic New Year' to all the Islamic folk out there in BF land. To the Palestinians among you, I hope that our great democracy measures up well to the one you, no doubt, so reluctantly left.

I think BIGNEDKELLY you understand that which can not be explained.

:)

Germany was at war with .... Europe?
Not sure Germany was a democracy.

Hitler was democratically elected, but Germany wasn’t that much of a democracy under him.

It wasn't a democracy at all by then.
Took over the Reichstag and copped a good old Bon fire.

he was originally democratically elected but then had well and truly become a pure dictator by the time ww2 came about.

WW2 was fought between democracies.
Depends on how loosely you want to define a democracy..
Britain... at the time very much still an aristocratic shamocracy
USSR ... do you consider the sole party elections for comrade Stalin a democratic process?
Mussolini... not sure but somehow guessing he wasn't playing a straight democratic bat.
The EMPIRE of Japan...

Care to elaborate?

The point of democracies and war is that the voting citizens bear some responsibility for it. Given that the Germans voted for an uber nationalist in 1933 who pledged to make Germany great again ... well, I think we can reasonably say that the German population could bear some moral responsibility for what happened next.

jeesh the responsibility... Another great reason not to vote...
Everyone who voted for Johnny Howard when he took us to an unjustifiable war in Iraq has blood on their hands. If only you had voted labour.. oh but wait labour 100% supported that war too...
Draw a dick on your ballot paper people. It's the only way to keep your soul clean of these unforseen atrocities.

If true that no democracy has ever fought a war against another democracy, like you've claimed, it's a pretty cool and interesting fact, but I posted a while ago suggesting that the India and Pakistan wars may have been two democracies. Were they?
