I'll be happy with this rule if they do one thing in return. Piss off with the interchange stewards and basically giving a free goal if somebody runs to the right of the line instead of the left or however it works. I do not like seeing umpires pissing their shorts and giving away 50m because they cant handle a player who gets frustrated. But boy those pointless rules really take the cake. Get rid of them and I'll try and put up with this latest load of crap, at least see how it works out.

One more thing. Some players have a shocking first half before they get their act together and come out with a ripping 2nd half. The substitute is likely to be very useless unless hes all guns firing as soon as hes brought in. If the bloke is having an off day, boy you'd be wishing you could have your other bloke back. Finding the upsides to this rule is a bloody difficult thing.

This is ****ing bullshit. Why does the AFL keep introducing/changing new rules when theres nothing wrong with them in the first place? They say it will help decrease the amount of injuries, when in actual fact it doesnt - just look at Collingwood. They won the premiership with one of the shortest injury lists in the AFL..

Statistically, the Bulldogs had the highest or 2nd highest interchange rotations and look what injuries did to them.....

We won't fully know the impact if any for years....

Remember when they had the 19th man and then the first interchange players.... the game evolves and always will.

It'll be interesting to see when teams use the sub. Depending on how the match is panning out and if that sort of player is needed and of course injuries.
I don't mind the rule.

I'm ringing the bullshit bell

Dimwittio can't help but try and change the rules to make his ever lasting mark on the game.

FYI this will do nothing to slow the game. Teams will simply respond by dropping their 2nd ruckmen who normally hits the bench as the 4th player and will play the same number of flankers and mids on the field and bench. Instead, they will have a resting ruck/forward setup ala Hille/Ryder.

All this will do is screw every ruckman's hopes of getting a game, starve even more players of opportunity and damage the spectacle of the game.

Worse, teams will ensure their substitute is a mid/flanker meaning in the 4th quarter when every player is running tired (more so because they haven't been on the bench as much) there will be a fresh player on either side smashing them and potentially changing the game and causing further injury to fatigued players.

So foolish it beggars belief.

Anyone who thinks this alarming and upward trend of high rotations is good for the game is kidding themselves. The trend in this thread is to "leave the game alone." well what ever happend to good old fashioned one on one footy when a player was responsible for an opponent. That used to happen as little as 4 years ago. Now the Malthouse induced rotations have all but killed that and turned it into a game of high paced keepings off.

I can see us still playing 2 rucks, Hardwick has stated that he wants to use a 3 tall system up forward and I see nothing wrong with say Graham and Vickery sitting in the square when resting. Thiw would allow us to have a bench with 3 runners and say a taller utility type, perhaps someone like Post who can play back or forwards and has also done a bit of pinch hitting in the ruck.

Towards 3/4 time you could substitute Vickery or Graham off bring on Post and still maintain the ability to keep rotations going with the other 3 on the bench, the only problem would be if one of our midsized players got injured and needed substituting.

Ironically the team that used the bench (magpies) the most, have already got around this situation. One ruck and a pinch hitter is the way to go. I don't have a problem with the rule. How long before we hear the term "super sub" come into the vernacular. I would rather they sort out the tribunal and in the back rule first though.
