My Big TOE by Tom Campbell is another science book I'd recommend. This one really is excellent and touches on a whole variety of topics including one of my favourites Simulation.
More of a light read and its large variety of topics means most people would find parts of it that really interest them and other parts that could be new and interesting.
Also a bit of old and new science all mixed throughout the book so everyone can find parts they like or find something to argue about

anyway can you two get your shiftighting out of here? it's a good idea for a thread.

1984 and brave new world read properly (not at school or university) are great. tragedy and hope is a huge task and i haven't finished it but the parts i've made it through are really provoking, especially when you consider who its author actually is.

my other suggestions: edward bernays's propaganda - again, think about who this guy actually was, how powerful he was. when he says that a group of men in a room probably decide the next PotUSA, well, he might just have a better idea than you or I.

gustave le bon's the crowd. this is a must to understand how the masses work. how large groups of people can be so easily controlled by so few, with so little reason, with so little sense.

i'll think of more and add them later, maybe some films too. again this is a really good idea for a thread.

I think the term pseudo science is disingenuous. A more correct term would be alternative science. Think....Alternative medicine versus modern medicine. Alternative news versus mainstream news.

Also in the same way of the origins of alternative medicine versus the origins of modern medicine.

Alternative medicine (if we're talking about herbs, plants etc) usually has some chemical or biological basis behind it - ergo a scientific basis. If it was found to be ineffective or worse, it probably wouldn't be available. It gets verified through the scientific process.

Whereas FE theory doesn't. It fails experiments (there's the Bedford Canal Experiment, held up by FE theorists as evidence for a flat earth, but in fact that experiment went a long way towards disproving it). FE does employ scientific means of study - it is akin to creationism in that respect, using scientific-sounding words to seem cleverer than it actually is. We see this same sort of argument with anti-vaxxers too.

The presence of books written by people with scientific qualifications doesn't mean that the authors actually followed the scientific method when they reached their conclusions. Conspiracy theorists tend to take their conclusions as their premise, working backwards.

This is not the Flat earth thread and quit derailing discussion in the hope of continued talk for reasons you now all to well about.

Stick to the Science board instead of coming here to try to debunk and make light of the posters that the board was designed for.

It is not going to end well for you if you keep this chain of approach on here.

With all due respect, I have referred directly to the subject of the reading list and the credentials of the authors.

Post your reading lists and discuss the books others mention?

In the hope of starting a shit fight on here to debunk a home ground opinion and who the hell knows what author is what anyway in the science field? You are being pedantic and childish pushing the boards rules to the extreme.

Let it go and this board is maybe just not for you.

If you want me to be honest, I'll PM you - but I have grave concerns over all of this.

One area of 'conspiracy' of great interest to me is UFOs - these are more difficult, in some ways, to judge - after all, UFO simply means Unidentified Flying Object - but a good starting point for this is a Guardian reading list - https://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/sep/01/mark-pilkington-top-10-books-ufos

There's another list here: http://www.foyles.co.uk/mind-body-s...a-the-paranormal/ufos-extraterrestrial-beings but the site is a bit garbled.

Grave concerns for what?

This is a footy forum FFS and you need to seriously not enter this board for your own good if you keep ignoring rules and baiting others while going around in circles asking for hard proof on this type of board.......

How am I ignoring the rules? Like I said, I'll PM you, but surely discussion of a conspiracy also includes critiquing and debunking it?

Home team rules means treat this board like an AFL Team Board. The natives of this board are enthusiasts of conspiracies and the paranormal. Therefore, respect the nature of the board and do not flame them personally or post merely to ridicule.

All are welcome. Debate and disagreement is fine and encouraged....as long as it's done sincerely and is not directed at posters. Debate the topic itself only.

Doesn't matter if you're arguing for or against a topic, do not post anything ad hominem in the threads otherwise you will be subject to a one-day threadban, followed by longer threadbans for repeat offenses, and possibly further action.

No one who visits any message board on the WWW wants to read pages of childish personal attacks back and forth between opposing sides. Think of others then by not littering threads and the board with that, ruining the enjoyment/education of others. Allow the board to be itself.

Do not publicly call out posters asking for them to be modded. Any issues you have, report the post and let the mod handle it, let the mod decide if the post warrants moderation or not. And, as a post reporter, move on once a decision is made.

* If you would like moderator decisions clarified or explained please contact the mods of the board. Complaining in open threads isn't the way to go, and might see you lose access/Infracted

* The moderators aren't robots and don't necessarily read every post. If you see something that you take offence with or is a breach of the forum rules - use the report post button and someone will attend to it.

In addition to this, please note that all posters must adhere to the rules outlined by the BigFooty 12 Commandments

It is your responsibility to know and abide by these rules. There is no excuse for not doing so.

I can highlight at least 3 you flirt with and break in nearly every second post you make on here.

I am also sick of posting this and you have been warned before, multiple times.

No more soft approach now and be very careful what you post in future and i hope i have made this clear.

This book looks at why we are coming up with the wrong findings, and how we understand very little.
It discusses how science still come to their conclusions while not understanding or totally ignoring the most important things like human perception, consciousness and quantum physicists.

Can vouch for Propaganda. One of the best things I've ever read, and related to my work field. I like outdated old school semantics/persuasion books - Korzybski Science and Sanity, for example - as I'm a professional bullshitter by trade.

I read Tragedy 15 years ago, and can scarcely believe it exists, given the author. Way too long to have the impact it should have had, and in hindsight may have done better if published after Watergate instead of the happy happy joy joy mid 60's.

I think most people knew Britain and Germany were trading with each other through most of WW2. The biggest take away I got from the book is the US as the 'power elite/cartel' conspiracy types talk about started to take shape around 1950.

UN 1945
NATO 1949
CIA 1947
World Bank 1945
Bilderberg 1954

I enjoyed your reading list and will give The Crowd a run at some stage.
