from the pro-stats web-site.
Although they don't mean overly much, I do think they are quite interesting, and worth taking note off.
* Chris Judd topped the AFL for Hard ball gets (104), Daniel Kerr came second (96)
* Ben Cousins came third in the AFL for loose ball gets (166) behind Koutifidies (204) and Buckley (171)
* Phil Matera finished equal fourth in the goalkicking with 62, behind Lloyd (88), Neitz (65), Fevola (64) and equal with Lynch.
* Phil Matera was the seventh most accurate kick at goal in the competition while Ashley Sampi was 11th.
* Michael Gardiner topped the league for Ruck Scoring Assists, with 66 (35 resulting in goals). Dean Cox was fourth with 40 (19 resulting in goals). Adelaide's ruck duo of Clarke and Biglands combined for 109 ruck scoring assists with 72 of those resulting in goals.
* Ben Cousins was 6th in the league for Inside 50 metres with 108.
* Michael Gardiner was 2nd in the league for hit outs with 444 (Clarke topped it with 518). Both were equal in terms of tap outs won, winning 43% of rucking contests they were in.
* Gardy topped the centre bounce hit outs with 190, while finishing 2nd in the around the ground hit outs to Clarke.
* Cousins (5th with 117), Judd (7th with 114) and Fletcher (10th with 103) all finished high up on the clearance list.
* Wirrpunda topped the AFL for rebounds with 169 just clear of Rohan Smith (164) in front of Camporeale (141).
* We had no players finish in the top 10 for spoils or one percenters (knock ons, spoils, smothers and sheppeards)
* Daniel Kerr finished 10th in the league for tackles (123)
* Ben Cousins topped the league for handling errors (dropped marks, fumbles and disspossesion) with 69 quite a way clear of Chris Tarrant (59).
* West Coast finished 10th for overall kicks and 6th for overall handpasses, and 11th for overall disposals this season.
* West Coast finished 15th for marks (averaging 71 a game), a fair way in front of Carlton (61/game).
* West Coast finished 14th for contested marks (averaging 12 a game).
* West Coast finished 5th for hard ball gets (34 per game), and 1st for loose ball gets (90 per game). Our overall standing for ball gets was first.
* West Coast went inside 50 the fourth most of any team this year (averaging 51 a game), but we were 11th for marks inside 50 (12 a game).
* As has been well noted, we topped the year for most points scored (averaging 106 a game), but our conversion of 52% was the11th best in the league - something to work on for 2004.
* Despite the talk about having such great kick outs, we were 11th in the competition for scoring untouched from kick ins.
* West Coast were 2nd for scoring from centre bounces with 80 scoring shots coming from centre bounces, however only 38 were goals (which was 6th in the league for goals from centre bounces).
* West Cost were 6th for scoring from ball ups with 66 scoring shots resulting - 35 of those were goals, which has us placed 5th for goals from ball ups.
* West Coast were 2nd for scoring from throw ins with 84 scoring shots resulting - 44 of those were goals, which had us placed 3rd for goals from throw ins.
* West Coast were 2nd for most hit outs per game (38/game), and 2nd for thie highest percantage of hit outs win (41%).
* West Coast were 3rd for having the most centre bounce hit out dominance, with 14-10 (I.e. we won 14 centre bounce hit outs per match, the opposition won 10) our averaging result in centre bounce hit outs for a match. Freo topped this stat with a 14-8 win per game.
* West Coast were 4th in throw in hit outs, and 5th in ball up hit outs.
* West Coast had the most clearances for the year, with 39 per match, however our record against the opposition was the 3rd best, with a 39-36 record for each match.
* Our ball up clearances needs work, with a 11-13 average result for each match.
* We had the seventh best defence in points conceed, with 90 a game going through against us.
* We were 6th in the competition for overall tackles (this one shocked me) with 68 per game.
* We were 7th in the competition for 1 %ers, making 46 a game.
* We were 8th in the competition for spoils, making 18 per game.
* We were 15th in the competition for handling errors, making 32 per game. Only Freo were worse with 33 a game.
* We missed more shots at goal than any other team, missing 91 for the season. This partly came from the fact we had more shots than any other team, but the next highest was Melbourne with 81. Brisbane only missed 55, had about the 14th or 13th lowest amount of missed shots.
* David Wirrpunda holds down 1st (21), 2nd (19) and 4th (15) spot on the list of most rebounds in a single match for the season. Ashley McIntosh also comes in 5th on that list with 15. The only non-Eagles on the list is Danny Jacobs, who racked up 16 rebounds against the Eagles in round 10.
* Chad Fletcher finished 7th in the AFL for goal assists with 29.
* Ben Cousins 1st (67), Chris Judd 2nd (66) and Daniel Kerr 6th (59) on the list for the leading playmakers. This means how many times a player has started an unbroken chain of possessions, leading to a score.
* Michael Gardiner was 4th (106) and Ben Cousins 8th (102) in the AFL for scoring involvements, this is a how many times a player has featured in an unbroken chain of possessions, leading to a score.
* We easily had the highest percantage of kicking long from kick ins than any other team. We average 11 kick ins a match, of which 7 of them we kicked long from, making 60%. No other team had above 50%.
* We had the second least amount of times kicking to self from a kick-in, with it only happening 9 times during the whole season. Amazingly, only once in the whole 22 rounds did a Geelong player kick to himself - that being when Ben Graham did it.
