Interesting Finals Results... Optimism for 2009

So mate....your team are pretenders.....nothing more, and the further you go the funnier it gets........unless you make the GF.........then its panic stations for everyone.:D

Haha. That's when we all go to church, seek forgiveness for our sins, and become the most devout Geelong fans the world has ever seen.

I agree the Blues window is a few years away and will last a few years.

Success in finals? Bull shit. You won't make a dint to the final result. you don't have the list to do anything. Hawthorn, Geelong and Bulldogs are clearly better than you, and the first time you play any of them you will lose.

Who are they?
Didak and Shaw were out for four weeks. i don't think you can add them to that argument. Anyway, I think it did you a world of good getting rid of that cancer, Didak.

You’re an idiot.
We are the youngest team in the AFL, you're not. so you cannot say that.

Four top picks.
Are you counting russell? Pick 9.
Because if you are you have five top ten picks since 2003 also.
Chris Egan, dale Thomas, Scott Pendlebury, Ben Reid and Nathan Brown.
Eat your words.

Also, what will you do when Rocca, Burns, O'bree, Johnson, Lockyer, Lonie, Prestigiacomo and Wakelin retire?
Go down the ladder? Yeah.
Get draft picks? While the draft is compromised, not a good idea.
See you in the years to come.

In fairness Rocca has missed 1/2 the year, Johnson hasn't played in 6 weeks and Presti and Lonie have played 3 games between them all year, so can't see their retirements/delistings hurting us to badly, Maybe Rocca's if Rusling goes down again.

We have won 1 less game and fallen only 2 ladder positions with Buckley, Licca and Clement's retirements (all of whom played only a handful of games each in 07) and they surely have left a bigger void than the players you metioned, add that to another year of development for the likes of Pendlebury, Thomas, Clarke, Cloke, Brown, Goldsack, Anthony, Dawes, Cook and McCarthy and things don't look too bad at Pies Land.

Perhaps you should ask yourself if what you will do if Judd or Fev go down injured? The last 2 years have shown that we have kids who can fill the vacancy of injured or retiring stars, the question is could you guys do it, furthermore could you do it in a final against the odds? Thoughts

Thomas and Clarke developed this year?
Huh.......go figure.

Judd went down injured vs the Tiges in their 100th celebration game. Stevens and Gibbs picked up the slack and we spanked them.

Fev is a problem, however, one of our best games late this year was vs Lions when Fev was essentially a decoy (cost him the ton) and Cloke (remember him) Fisher and Houlihan all kicked multiples while Fev stood in the pocket with two defenders laughing.

Waite can also go forward and kick goals.

Losing both would be a headache, but the team structure has shown the ability to change and cover, and this will only improve as Gibbs and Murphy continue to develop......would be nice to have a young forward in the wings.

Haha, losing Judd for 1 game against Richmond mid-year please. Winning 1 game with Fevola being held quite, it happens every now and again. Look at us on the w/e. We kicked 19 goals with our 2 highest goalkickers in Medhurst and Cloke kicking 2 between them. 13 goalkickers we had, that is what wins you matches.

Thomas not developing is laughable, did you get a look at him on Saturday? Would love to have seen Gibbsy or Murph do that on the big stage, maybe we will see first hand how they go in September in 12 months time, that brings me to my second point Murphy developed... His footskills didn't I can assure you of that

wow this board is more entertaining than i thought it would be... keep up the good work blue boys, its been 8 years and counting. I'll believe all the hype when i see it. :thumbsu:

good points. but maybe the de-partures of clement, licuria and buckly were not as painful becuase you have the some of the players mentioned to fall back on.
i do realize that lonie, rocca, and prestigiacomo have not played a roll in collingwood's 2008 season. but johnson has played the majority of games so i would argue that he has made a difference.

and to answer your question.
if judd and fevola are absent, in the near future we will be ok.
and yes we could do it, when our list get's as old as yours and development continues and experience improves while our superior young talent emerges we will be able to take such a blow.

God yeah.

In 2008 there were / are 2 exceptional teams, 1 team that had a great start to the year and then a whole bunch of slightly above average teams whove had their ups and downs. Some have the benefit of good coaches, some have some key players that can rise at this time of year, some are just on the gentle decline and wont really challenge for a premiership with this list.

In 2009 this should give us hope of hitting the 8 at least and maybe surprising for the top 4 or 6 assuming we really fix some things up.

I dont think it should give us any hope though of being on a par with Hawthorn or Geelong. They have increased their greatness faster than we have improved in my view and I cant see us challening them for a few years.

So yes to a surprise top 6 appearance but not to anything else.

nothing against fevola, he's obviously a great player, but one headline which would be very interesting to see over the summer break would be:
FEV GOES DOWN WITH KNEE INJURY- 2009 GONE

it would good to see who will step up and kick those 99 next year, certainly not fisher or cloke
