Australian cycling legend Charlie Walsh believes a number of Adelaide Crows players possess the qualities of a “world’s best” athlete.

According to Walsh, the elite athlete is the “total package” – extreme mental strength and skill.

“There’s a whole range of them that have pretty outstanding qualities,” Walsh said. “Performance is very much about the strength of mind, and with their commitment and skill they have the attributes to be the best in the world.”

Extreme mental strength? Except when the 'f' word is mentioned.

However, he singled out Brett Burton as an athlete with the potential to be a world class cyclist.

“Somebody who is really quite exceptional is Brett Burton,” Walsh said. “Aerobically he is very, very good and explosively he is also remarkable. The bit of testing work that I have done with him on the bicycles – he has the physiological attributes to be one of the very best in the world in the cycling disciplines that would suit him. His fierceness to win is apart of that package.”

Great to hear the birdman has talent in Neil Craig's main sport. Perhaps the tour de france beckons after he completes the hat trick of chokes in september?

The former Australian cycling coach believes that a craving to be the best is essential for elite athletes.

Keep craving :thumbsu:

I heard that interview on 5aa driving along one night. Gave me a bit of a laugh. If you were someone who didnt know about AFL listening in you would have thought it was an interview about the Tour Down Under or maybe Olympic cycling.

You should change your name to the damocrate31 “you just keep us bastards honest”

Way to go S31, way to go. keep up the good work mate. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Well I guess the two sports are pretty similar in nature. A successful cycling coach will make a successful AFL coach.

Wow you are obsessed.

Get a life.

Now, now FP lets show some admiration and down right respect to S31. He has put a lot of hard work, time and research into finding this article.

S31 – good work old son. :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :)

Hasn't anyone realised that this is just the Glenelg mentality coming through again?

For all those who are unaware, Stan Wickham (ex Glenelg great) once rode his bike out of the changerooms at the beginning of an SANFL game because it was reported in the papers that he was too slow.

Maybe Neil Craig was at that game, and liked what he saw.

Obsessed much Salopek or shall I say my little brother, and then I notice that Rory is on to this thread pretty quick. You two are a hilarious, classic symptoms of the big brother syndrome

Its not hard to copy and paste an article from the Port rag (Advertiser) and then bag it. I can do the same, in fact I will.

On your bikes Crows. Oh you are. As you were then......

Unlike you guys, we actually managed to stay on the bikes into September. Perhaps Choco should upgrade the 3 speed malvern Star dragsters that you guys were riding last year, as they clearly weren't designed to last any longer than August.;)

Guess all he needs to decide is EPO or roids?
