If you’ve got an NBN box in your house then you are FTTP.
If your NBN comes via the copper telephone lines then you have FTTN.
FTTP should be the superior service.
Maggie5, have a look at your bill and it should tell you what speed service you are signed up to.
From that up/down speed you can do a Speedtest to see if you are getting value for money.

We have the Shit FTTN. Glad we get the Shittest NBN which is no better then ADSL for Download.

You super Lucky Maggie5 to get FTTP and not the Shit FTTN I have

Mate, I’ve got FTTN.
And a long way from the node.
Still happy with my speed.

I am about 400m from the Node and been no Improvement from ADSL. I am using NBN25 at the Moment

I’m 1.6 kms from the node.
When I had the 25 plan I got about 20/21 consistently through the day.
Now on the 50 plan I get 32/34 consistently through the day.
As I’ve pointed out, more to do with your isp, not the NBN.
Still prefer I could have had FTTP, but that isn’t going to happen.

So just get Rid of Optus ASAP and look at a IP like Aussie Broadband?

Just checked I am on something called HFC and it seems that they are still working on it.o_O

Seems very strange to me for them to use Optus/Telstra cable for TV when Telstra have announced they are moving away from that and are going satellite in the next few years.

I am on a shared service and likely to get congestion if everyone in the neighbourhood is on at the same time.

It is a mess!

Do a bit of research when getting NBN. Telstra/Aussie Broadband are the best.. cheap ones you get what you pay for. I am on foxtel FTTN but I am 100m from the node.. I get 90mbps or about 8 megs a second download speed.

Cheaper providers like Iprimus have a limited share of the NBN network so say if your neighbour was Telstra and you were Iprimus if he logs on he gets priority or a bigger share of the line speed and yours will suffer.. in simple terms anyway. Providers pay more for a greater use, and consumers pay more for these services.

Foxtel wouldn't even tell me my max line speed so I just paid for the top for a month and tested it myself daily, Telstra will tell you straight away.

FTTN speeds, and NBN speeds in general taper off a heap once your 400m away from node/exchange. Is almost exponentially shit.

Yeah I heard of HFC but not sure what it Means and where they gonna Put It

Sounds Very Terrible that you have to be Right Next to the Node to get any Descent Speed. Not Fair at all and Shows yet again what a Shit Job the Coalition has done with the NBN Roll Out

The thing I'm going to miss most about living on campus is the university internet. It was brilliant.

I remember when I was in Tafe about 8-10 Years Ago I would sometime be just about only one left there and Got Great Download Speeds.

Funny how I get close to that Speed Now which was around 1mbps.

Would be amazing Fast at a Uni Like That.

If you change from Optus to Aussie Broadband you will see a very big difference in speed I would think.

Look here Dave. Should tell you it isn't just your connection it's your isp.

Read the bit about contract exits without penalty & see what you can do.
You aren't getting what you paid for.

Whatever you decide Dave, sign with a provider that has no lock in contract.
That way if you’re not happy you can walk with no penalty.

That is a Fantastic Plan and Are there any that you could Try before you Buy?

No Shock that Murdoch Runs the Liberal Party but shows that the Coalition are Weak as Piss and do what the Bribers tell him to do

Labor have committed to spend $57 billion to run FTTP if they win the next election i.e. go back to their original plan

He did back Labor back in the day. He swings with whatever makes him money.

Optus has to Friday we can Esculate the Problem with Optus
Interestingly, our business service provider rang me today and said he wanted to come and change the internet provider.
From Optus to Telstra!
Now I’m no fan of either of the big two. But straight after the changeover the speed was so much better. Will do a speed test tomorrow, but there was a day when we were getting under 3 Mbps. Yes, that’s correct, 3 Mbps, that’s why our provider has acted.
I had a chat with him, and he agreed that Aussie were one of the best out there, but for them, who need to have backend access, it doesn’t work. Aussie are, rightly, protective of what they have achieved.
