Stay away from Telstra.

What do you have now and what do you pay?

I'd be very wary of any deal Telstra offer as the salesperson often doesn't disclose important Terms that may result in you actually being inelligable or have drastically reduced services.

Pay between 130 to 150

20 gigs of net at $59
$49 cap on home phone go over some times
and line rental

A few have said stay away from telstra

I'm on Internode Naked DSL 2+ 50Gig for $79.95

I obviously have no home line but the plan includes a VOIP service with a number that can be called from any other phone. The plan also includes $10 per month in phone calls - at $0.18 to call any land line in Australia I never go over the included calls.

For what you spend you could get 100 GBs for $139.95

Or the fact that tech support has been outsourced to the Phillipines.

Try spending 10 minutes giving your name, rank and serial number,
then going through the entire process again, as it is a Mac.

Internodes 'Easy Broadband' 50gb (includes down+up) for $49.95. Great plan. Very quick, good customer service.

Phone im with Telstra, but am about to cancel the home phone as we rarely use it. Mobile is with Telstra as well. I dont mind Telstras phone service. Their internet service on the other hand....

I'm on the Optus fusion bundle which is $99 per month and includes 20 GB of ADSL2, line rental and local and STD calls.

Some things to consider:
(1) If anyone has a landline through Optus, then you will probably find that you are held to ransom to using their internet ("Optus copper" syndrome). I found this out the hard way.

(2) Telstra and Optus charge uploads towards your cap and charge you craploads if you go over your monthly limit. Internode, Adam, etc give you unlimited uploads and simply slow your speed down if you go over.

(3) VoiP is a pain because you can't use it in a power failure or when your internet is down (cheap calls though).

(4) Telstra suck.

is ultra reliable and just as fast as any other. Decent service too. However, costs about 1.5x their nearest competitor.

Apparently theyve recognised it as a problem and will be slashing prices soon, but i'll believe that when I see it.

However, I don't understand all these people scaremongering their internet sevice in general, if you can get a price competitive deal (which I severely doubt is possible) they should be your number one choice in my humble opinion.

Agree, I've been to other providers and come back to telstra. Rarely had problems and if I do they've been quite good in resolving it. The net is slightly more expensive but bundled with other services (phone, fox, mob) softens the blow. They do not charge for going over the download cap as another poster suggested, they merely slow it, at least on my plan anyways.

I have no home line and only use my mobile for calls so I have the 3 mobile internet key. I don't game online or watch much in terms of videos so its a cheap way for me to be online.

I was with Telstra when I was living at home (had cable, and they're pretty much the only mob that do cable internet) - while their plans had limited options (either $40 for 400MB - though this is now 2GB - or $60 for 12GB), it was ultra reliable with no outages in 3 years.

When I bought my own place, I got 3 Wireless - much cheaper at $29 for 2GB (all I really need). It's reliability is ok, but it's horrendously slow (it's about on par with dial-up, despite claiming to have a speed of 3.6MB/s).

I was with Telstra for years but overpriced. they used to match local providers but not now...I am now with Internode Easy Broadband....50 GB downloads....use Skype for local calls...unlimited at 6.95 for Australia wide calls...save heaps. Watch the hidden costs and small downloads on most other providers...

You can't use a landline in a power failure anyway...I use Skyp...cheap and reliable.

Fast yes, reliable...im yet to have an unreliable internet service so no different to any other, service was the sole reason I changed elsewhere. Ridiculously bad service. Add in the fact they have been more expensive (sometimes dramatically so) than anyone else, and changing ISPs was a simple decision for me.

You can't use a cordless phone in a power failure. However, you can use a corded phone in a power failure as it requires no power to operate.

Actually they do, they just draw their power from the phone line (as distinct from the 240V mains). Not unlike computing peripherals which draw their power from the computer through a USB cable, rather than requiring a power cord of their own.

Well, I learn something new!
