The Adelaide game on Sunday will be a huge test. The Crows midfield is the equal of Brisbanes in my mind. Ricciutto, McLeod and the others bring muscle, firepower and pure class wherever they play. Our young blokes will have a very big job to limit them.
I see us winning for the same reasons we've won all our games this year. We can cover their ruck with our rotation of talls, our defence can cope with just about any attack, and our forwards score heavily even off limited supply. Adelaide's defence may prove their undoing.
The threat is if Adelaide absolutely take control out of the centre they could starve our forwards completely. We must be extremely competitive in the midfield, both in stop plays and transitions.
Malthouse runs really excellent rotations through the middle with the grunt of Burns McGough Licuria and Johnson complementing the finishing of Bucks and O'Bree. Bucks of course has grunt and disposal, but he's no longer the only string to our bow.
We also get run out of the back half with Clement, Freeborn, Lonie (if picked) and even Presti and Wakelin carrying the ball to the wing. We need to use this rotation to run the Crow guns off their legs, and that's a huge ask.
I reckon we'll win a close one. The home ground does favour the Crows a bit, but we play Football Park fairly well. They're tough and hard at the ball, but we've proved against Brisbane and North that we can live with the hard sides (even if we're not exactly a 'he-man" side ourselves).
The result of the game has long term implications. We fancy ourselves as a serious finals side-if that's the case we will have to win an interstate game at some point (given how the top four is shaping up). It may as well be this week.
