He rates Hampson highly and mentioned taps and hits to advantage as a glaring weakness. Thinks Hampson will do the job for us. Inadvertently he basically laid out the stats confirming that Maric was not able to perform to the required level.
I do not think the Tigers can go with Hampson, Maric and Vickery in the same selected team regularly, if at all. I think we need Hampson to step up and replace Maric.... Hard call I know. What do others think?
Good question Sregit.
You are dead right that Maric as a ruck is a middle of the road based on stats. One thing the ruck stats will not tell you is that once he is in the centre or at a stopage our mids go in harder due to Marics pressence. I know a few of our players personaly and have heard the story of him pulling up a midfielder that will remain nameless and telling him infront of his peers just before a ball up that he was weak and shirking the contest during a particular game. Maric then challenged him to go in on the next tap out as if hes life dependend on it and know when he did, that Maric and the other mids will be right there with him.
That IMO is something stats cant picture. We were not the worst centre or stopage team, I believe we were in the top 5 ? in that are ? The reason our mids did so well was knowing the bloke smashing his body time after time, even injured was doing it to bring them sucess..they respond.
Hampson will only complement that, Our mids wont have to work so hard now but never forget with Maric still forward or even on the bench his team mates know he is watching them and expects them to give what he gives.
Sorry for going on a tangent lol
