There was a thread a while back, about the way INXS went about finding a new front man on a reality show "Rockstar INXS", people have their opinions about that, and that fair enough, but lets look past that and actually rate the new 11 songs that make up the new album "Switch".

For mine, i actually wasn't expecting too much but i was actually pleasantly surprised, i wouldn't say it's a great album, but at the same time it's not a dud either.

Highlights for me include Devils Party [should be the next single & strongest track on the album], Pretty Vegas, Afterglow, Perfect Strangers, Hungry, Us & God's Top Ten.

The rest of the album are pretty much making up the numbers, could have been a better album but also could have been much worse.

I would have given the album a 6 out of 10 but the first track Devil's Party nudges up to a 7, would have loved to here Hutch sing that track!:(

Yep, solid but unspectacular. I tried to keep my expectations down, which I think helped a lot. This is not going to turn into The Swing mk 2 or anything, and there sure is no "Don't Change" or "Original Sin"'s on this album, but it is great to hear the boys back in action anyway.

I haven't managed to get through all the material yet, but I have been impressed with what I have heard.

basically, I agree with your sentiments: it's a good album, without being great - but it certainly does the job.

'Pretty Vegas' was a good choice of single too - it suits JD's voice well, captures the 'raw' sound that INXS used to do best and is catchy as hell to boot.

the question is - can it last?

I got it the day it came out..but i had already heard all the songs..i luv them all except maybe the song Pengilly wrote [like it or not]..but im trying to make all my friends buy it..Devils Party is the best song on it i think..

Im just trying to make them listen to some good music coz all they listen to are their crappy emo bands

I'd say an 8/10, good songs especially like Pretty Vegas, Devil's Party and God's Top Ten, as an individual album band and lead singer forgotten i'd say it stacks up pretty well.

However with the new lead songer I was expecting some change and maybe some evoloution, however despite the change they seem happy to keep playing that late 80's early 90's rock instead of elvolving as a group. I think this album shows us that with JD Fortune INXS is going to become more of a REM than a U2.

I was pleasantly surprised with the album.

Im not a huge INXS fan but have followed the progress of the band and enjoy listening to their best of album semi-regularly.

I suppose most critics were ready to can the album before it was released after the Rockstar process that led them to JD being the new singer.

I watched the whole show and I think when people see the talent that was on the show and get over the whole INXS used reality tv thus the album will be garbage discussion they can make a more informed opinion. Some of the peroformers on the show will go on to forge decent careers in the industry.

Switch rocks, haven't stopped playing it since I got it. There's not a bad song on the album, some are better than others but there isn't one that makes me want to press the skip button. JD Fortune was the perfect fit, his voice is great on the album and he seems as if he's been a part of the band for years.

My favourite songs are Hot Girls, Devils Party, Pretty Vegas and Perfect Strangers.

INXS didn't really need to evolve on this album as the music scene has come full circle since the 80's and Pop Rock is back in, artists such as The Killers and Franz Ferdinand are having great success on creating their own versions of what INXS did in the 80's.

I can't wait til their next album comes out and we can see what sort of an influence JD is going to have over the band.

9/10

I take it you like the album!:D

Yeah i've been listening to it quite a bit, and i must say some of the songs are real growers such as "Afterglow", I still think there are 7 beauty's and 4 ok songs.

As for the evolving with the times, i was actually hoping that they would go back to there trademark sound, guitars, Kirk's sax get's a good going over. They tried to move with the times in the 90's without alot of success in my opinion such as U2 did with their Zooropa & Pop albums, they went back to their trademark sound on "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" and is probably their best album since "the Joshua Tree".

There was a track that INXS performed with JD with he was anounced as the winner, it was called "Easy Easy" which i thought was a pretty good track, i wonder what happened to it as it didn't make it onto the album? Perhaps it could be released as a B-Side on one of their forthcoming singles.

I'll put my hand up and admit I wrote off their method of auditioning for the vocalist. But I have been pleasently suprised by this album, it's best to approach it as a new band with a clean slate, theres no point making comparisons with the old stuff.

They actually announced it as the first single off their new album at the time. Wonder why they changed?

Oh I was the opposite, I thought that song was useless. Nearly led to a huge anti-climax of the Rockstar show, as it finished up with that song. I've tried listening to that song a few times since, but I just can't force myself to like it. One word: boring.

It will be interesting though to see what they do in regards to future singles from the album.

It received plenty of negative press. Not too many people liked it, so they must have reacted to the fans and got rid of it.

I didn't tape the program so i've only heard the track once, it sounded pretty good at the time.

As for future singles, in my opinion from the album they should release "Devils Party" [has been described as Original Sin 2005 in a review], "Afterglow", "Perfect Strangers" and possibly "Hungry" or "Us".

I wish they did keep easy easy i loved that song..
anyways i hope they dont release afterglow..that and like it or not were the songs i didn't like on Switch. They Definitely should release Devils Party that song is the best on the album i think :)

God's Top Ten could be scessful if they release it with enough Michael nostaligia

Switch has this week made it's debut in the Australian Aria Albums Chart at number 18, the single Pretty Vegas drops to number 20 after peaking at 9 a few weeks ago.
